Red Dragon

Author: Thomas Harris
Series: Hannibal Lecter #1
Original publication: November 1981
Book description: A second family has been massacred by the terrifying serial killer the press has christened "The Tooth Fairy." Special Agent Jack Crawford turns to the one man who can help restart a failed investigation: Will Graham. Graham is the greatest profiler the FBI ever had, but the physical and mental scars of capturing Hannibal Lecter have caused Graham to go into early retirement. Now, Graham must turn to Lecter for help.

Thoughts:
This is a very interesting story. Will is very realistic and intuitive. He still has issues to accept the actions he had to do in the past, fear his own mind and others.
We get very little from Lecter, he was just an afterthought and mentioned like a big presence yet never allowed enough room to develop.
The relationship between Will and Molly is not my favorite, I understand where it comes from, her attitude and his but not my favorite. The relationship between Graham and his stepson was underdeveloped or maybe it's that family was not a main point of the story.
The Red Dragon as a character was not a perfect man, he was troubled and did not seem like he reay had a good objective. All his crimes were towards an objective but the logic he had I could not get into. At the start of the book, I had very different assumptions about the murderer, the reasons, the police force, oh well I excepted very different things from what I got.
Still enjoyed the story very much.
I gave this a 5-star rating.

I did struggle the first maybe fourth of the book but as soon as I got into the story, I was completely trapped and wanted to read in a single sitting.
