Completed series 2021

Image
Taking a look at the start of the year and I did have a list of series to complete this yes. It can be found here . To recap real quick: 1. Precious stone trilogy by Kerstin Gier. I complete it. It was a clear disappointment. I liked the idea much more than the execution. The time-traveling was very interesting, the family drama, the plots, and the real enemy waiting and moving the pieces of the game in the background. The main character was annoying, even more so than in the first book. The love interest and the "romance" well my enjoyment went downhill only for that.  2. Series of unfortunate events by Lemony Snicket . I completed it. My enjoyment was so-so. It becomes repetitive and predictable. I was expecting that but I became annoyed by the absurd and awful human being in the story. Every adult was an imbecile that can't see what's right in front of them. I liked it mostly but by the end I simply wanted it to be over. I might revisit a few of my favorites but ...

Author's backlist check in 2

As part of the personal challenge, I have taken upon myself the second person I picked was Agatha Christie. So here I will provide an overall view of the progress I have made in the last year and the upcoming prospect of the challenge. I will continue and try to complete it in the near future.  Last few months I managed to read the works from 1920 The mysterious Affair at Styles to Death in the clouds published in 1935, that is 22 of her works.  I have enjoyed them for the most part and understand why even so many decades later she is a very popular author. In the next 12 months I plan on reading: JANUARY I have already started reading both of them. The ABC murders was very interesting. I enjoyed it a lot. My review for it coming soon. FEBRUARY MARCH Why dumb witness? Very peculiar choice of words. APRIL It's good I don't really read seasonally, I didn't plan this correctly, reading Christmas stories in April. MAY I have already read And there were none but it has be...

Authors backlist Check in 1

As a personal challenge, I have been reading the books in publication order for Stephen King and Agatha Christie. This is not a new idea, I have seen it happen before for several authors the downside of it is that I picked authors that have a big list of published works.  I have made a plan on the books I will read for 2021 and even then the challenge will not be complete. Next time I pick the authors for this challenge I have to really try to do it when I have the time to invest and get to more than one book a month otherwise it takes forever.  Sidenote: I already plan to start a new author challenge this 2021 so no more until one of the current ones is complete. For Stephen King, I have read 15 of his works published between his debut in 1974 (Carrie) to 1983 (Christine) These are the books I have read last year. I have two books DNF but not in a permanent way as I will have to pick up the Gunslinger if I need to read the continuation of the series.   JANUARY Both seem...

Clarinet update

Image
I am getting the start on the goals for the upcoming year. I was not able to go look for the instrument in a real music store because of the limitations in place due to lockdown. It is getting better but it is still easier to order online. After a few days of looking (maybe 2), I did not do a thorough search. I found one and ordered one. It finally arrived on December 21, the downside: The reed was damaged so after trying to do assemble it and play, I get a squeaky noise 50% of the time.  I am not good at it, I need to relearn the notes and be able to hold a steady breath in order to play but still, the main issue is the broken reed. After that, the second thing I need to buy is the cleaner kit, and the cork grease in order to make the assembling easier. The clarinet came with a tiny, tiny amount that only lasted for the first try. I will try to order another one. I am making a few online purchases. My first one was reeds. I ordered a pack of 10, to begin with. There were a ...
