Author: T.J. Klune Genre: Sci-Fi Publication date: March 16, 2020 Book description: A magical island. A dangerous task. A burning secret. Linus Baker leads a quiet, solitary life. At forty, he lives in a tiny house with a devious cat and his old records. When Linus is unexpectedly summoned by Extremely Upper Management he's given a curious and highly classified assignment: travel to Marsyas Island Orphanage, where six dangerous children reside: a gnome, a sprite, a wyvern, an unidentifiable green blob, a were-Pomeranian, and the Antichrist. Linus must set aside his fears and determine whether or not they’re likely to bring about the end of days. But the children aren’t the only secret the island keeps. Their caretaker is the charming and enigmatic Arthur Parnassus, who will do anything to keep his wards safe. As Arthur an

In an alchemical ritual gone wrong, Edward Elric lost his arm and his leg, and his brother Alphonse became nothing but a soul in a suit of armor. The world has been ravaged by the abuse of alchemy. And in pursuit of the ultimate

May Week 1 update

Image
So the first week is a stretch, really.  The first few days did not go as planned. But I did start a few books I plan on completing Monday before catching up on the schedule. I have started  -House in the cerulean sea by TJ Klune -La vida, el tiempo y la muerte by Fanny Blanck-Cereijido and Marcelo Cereijido -Fisica cuantica para filosofos by Alberto Celemente de la Torre So I have completed a few of them mostly mangas. The ones I didn´t complete are two nonfiction and a fantasy book.  As the ones completed are all part of series there is really not much I can say without spoiling. For Fullmetal Alchemist I enjoy my journey so far. My favorite one so far is volume 6. It is the one that gives us the past of the Elric brothers.  For Inuyasha well, we still have the journey of the gang. Naraku is still around and we see a few betrayals among the reincarnations. There is a lot of dramas. I am enjoying it a lot. The presence of Sesshoumaru is still coming up at random. He is not as bad an

May TBR 31 books in 31 days challenge

Image
This is a very interesting start. I am just returning again from a very long break I took the last few weeks (more like months at this point). I am debating if I should do a wrap-up for the last few months or just move on?  I have not updated anything since the second week of May. We will see. Also this coming month I have very ambitious plans. Let me try to lay an overview of the big plans.  Challenge 31 books in 31 days. *36 books in this list but by now I am not sure how to count them or not. I have several volumes in the same series. Week 1 • Fullmetal Alchemist vol 5 Hiromu Arakawa   • Fullmetal Alchemist vol 6 Hiromu Arakawa • Fullmetal Alchemist vol  7 Hiromu Arakawa • Fullmetal Alchemist vol  8 Hiromu Arakawa • Fullmetal Alchemist vol  9 Hiromu Arakawa This is another of the manga series I am trying to get through.  Breaking the laws of nature is a serious crime! In an alchemical ritual gone wrong, Edward Elric lost his arm and his leg, and his brother Alphonse be

Time ships

Image
Author: Stephen Baxter  Genre: Sci-Fi Original publication date: January1995 Book description:   There is a secret passage through time...and it leads all the way to the end of Eternity. But the journey has a terrible cost. It alters not only the future but the "present" in which we live. A century after the publication of H. G. Wells' immortal The Time Machine, Stephen Baxter, today's most acclaimed new "hard SF" author, and the acknowledged Clarke, returns to the distant conflict between the Eloi and the Morlocks in a story that is at once an exciting expansion, and a radical departure based on the astonishing new understandings of quantum physics. Thoughts: It starts off in an interesting manner. We follow our main character as he returns to his normal timeline and no time has been registered so he was not missed really. He tries to share his finding and what he saw with his contemporary scientific society. No one really believes or takes shim seriou

No Disclaimer book tag

Image
This tag I saw in Merphy's channel on YouTube you can find the video here . The original is not mentioned, I am not sure who created it either.   And she did mention we as viewers can consider ourselves tagged, so I'm taking up that. It seems like a fun one to try out. I barely do Tag lately I miss them. If anyone has a suggestion for Tags, feel free to suggest them in the comments. Disclaimers have been around probably since before the start of media being used in reviews for books, movies, and series as we see it nowadays. I mean come on, there are very few objective reviews of anything be it art, movies, even academic research, we are humans being with emotions and different life experiences, we always see things differently. So yes every review is based on personal opinion especially because most of the people doing them do this as hobbies and don't do this for a living. Even a few of the people who have a full time reviewers have a specific taste and opinion even if

The Carnivorous Carnival

Image
Series: A series of unfortunate events # 9 Author: Lemony Snicket Genre: Fantasy, Children Original publication date: October 17th, 2002 Book description (from Storygraph):  Dear reader, The word "carnivorous," which appears in the title of this book, means "meat-eating," and once you have read such a bloodthirsty word, there is no reason to read any further. This carnivorous volume contains such a distressing story that consuming any of its contents would be far more stomach-turning than even the most imbalanced meal. To avoid causing discomfort, it would be best if I didn't mention any of the unnerving ingredients of this story, particularly a confusing map, an ambidextrous person, an unruly crowd, a wooden plank, and Chabo the Wolf Baby. Sadly for me, my time is filled with researching and recording the displeasing and disenchanting lives of the Baudelaire orphans. But your time might be better filled with something more palatable, such as eating your
