Dream Thieves
Author: Maggie Stiefvater
Genre: Magical Realism
Original publication date:
Book Description ( from Good Reads): Now that the ley lines around Cabeswater have been woken, nothing for Ronan, Gansey, Blue, and Adam will be the same. Ronan, for one, is falling more and more deeply into his dreams, and his dreams are intruding more and more into waking life. Meanwhile, some very sinister people are looking for some of the same pieces of the Cabeswater puzzle that Gansey is after.
Thoughts:
*Characters: 9.5
For the main characters the friendship, their personalities feel so complete and round. Yet the secondary characters, such as Karvinski, the older and younger Lynch brothers, well they all have their something. They all very realistic and you end up caring about them.
*Logic: 9.0
They are looking for magic and impossible but it is done so realistically, they know it's impossible they doubt and hope. It's very reasonable XD (see what I did there!)
Plot: 8.0
There is really no plot here the story is in a hiatus, it really doesn't move at all. Not that I'm complaining I like the characters enough to enjoy the time spent with them, getting to know them and see it all develop.
The mysterious King is still as elusive as he was since the beginning of the first book and they are no closer to it. It is a bit surprising that in the second book and they have made so little progress on their search.
*Writing Style: 8.5
The story flow is great, it reads super fast. That helps my sense of accomplishment, especially in a slump. I picked up the book for that very reason, had issues sticking to read and this really helped out.
*Intrigue: 8.5
There is still some mystery going around, such as the dreamers, how they are picked, and how is it decided who is a true cosen one and who is a thief? Oh well, the mystery was still present but it definitely was not the main focus of this book.
*Enjoyment: 10.0
No need to expand this, I love this one. Main reason Ronan, Adam, Blue and Gansey, Maura and Mr Gray oh well the people we get to know and their relationships to one another make this special, (yes they went from characters to people) In this specific one I do not like Noah so much but oh well.
*Intention: 8.5
If the purpose you mean on the overall plot, that was very small progress made at all. But if the point was to get to know the people a bit more ad fall in love with them, then that was a total hit (10/10).
Total: 62
Average: 8.85
Star rating: 4.5
So we will round up to 5.0
