2022 Reading Goals

This year held a lot of changes and that was reflected in my online presence. I simply poofed out of existence without a single warning or explanation. I am not going to dive into the past for now. Let's focus on the oncoming year.

Sidenote: This last few months my work has been trying to get us to move forward in those self-help books. One thing that was driven until it landed was the SMART method of setting goals.  So I am going to use that logic while setting up my reading goals for this year.

Let's break them down. I mean most are very straightforward.

  • Overall my goal is to read 300 books. From those, the minimum is 250 new reads. The other subcategory includes a few rereads, my ideal plan is to have 1 or 2 per month. In other words, something like 12 (minimum) to 24 (ideal).
I have several personal challenges.

  • Finish 12 series. I have the bad habit of starting many series. I lost count of how many I am in the middle of and still plan to continue. So the plan is to complete 6 each half of the year. It does not matter if I start and complete it from book one to the end of the series or if I only have one more to complete it.
  • Catch up to the most recent book published in the series I have started but have not been completely published. Minimum: 3, my ideal is 8.
  • A to Z challenge. This has two sets as well. One is including the book titles.  Removing the definite and indefinite articles (the, a, an). The other set is based on the author's last name.

  • 25 % challenge. This one is very straightforward as well. I am going to try to balance my reads based on the author's nationality. The ideal is to have 25% of each continent: 25% of my authors from Africa, Asia, America, Europe, and Oceania.
  • Authors. I am still in the middle of this one. How it works? I am reading works in publication order of specific authors, for over a year my chosen ones have been: Agatha Christie and Stephen King. Yes, that was a mistake, both have been very prolific so I have not been able to complete this even once.  This year I plan on adding another author to the list. John Grisham (I am aware that it's not smart. I have chosen another very long list so it will not be completed within 12 months).

  • Works in Spanish. Self-explanatory. 1- 2 per month. (Minimum 12, ideal 24).
  • Nonfiction 1 per month
  • Big books >700 pages. 2 per month, so 24 by the end of the year.
  • Book adapted to movies, series, etc. The idea is to read the book then compare it to the adaptation.
