Image
Title: Rainmaker Author: John Grishman 419 pages  Date published: September 2005 Book description:  A young man barely out of law school who finds himself taking on one of the most powerful, corrupt, and ruthless companies in America -- and exposing a complex, multibillion-dollar insurance scam. In hs final semester of law school Rudy Baylor is required to provide free legal advice to a group of senior citizens, and it is there that he meets his first "clients," Dot and Buddy Black. Their son, Donny Ray, is dying of leukemia, and their insurance company has flatly refused to pay for his medical treatments. While Rudy is at first skeptical, he soon realizes that the Blacks really have been shockingly mistreated by the huge company, and that he just may have stumbled upon one of the largest insurance frauds anyone's ever seen -- and one of the most lucrative and important cases in the history of civil litigation. The problem is, Rudy's flat broke, has no job, hasn

Challenge 2: The Retribution of Mara Dyer

Image
Challenge 2: Read a sequel, so I choose the book after the Evolution of Maya Dyer, the third and last book if you don't count the Noah Shaw continuation. Title: The Retribution of Mara Dyer Author: Michelle Hodkin 470 pages/ 40 chapters digital version Genre: YA Paranormal/Fantasy  Date published: November 2014 Book Description:  Mara Dyer wants to believe there's more to the lies she’s been told. There is.   She doesn’t stop to think about where her quest for the truth might lead. She should.  She never had to imagine how far she would go for vengeance. She will now. Loyalties are betrayed, guilt and innocence tangle, and fate and chance collide in this shocking conclusion to Mara Dyer’s story. Retribution has arrived. So yeah I began the challenges all out of order, I guess it doesn't really matter and I have been starting multiple books at onc. It really is no problem for me because I generally do read several books at the time but it does kind of make

Challenge 6: The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde

Image
Title: The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde Author: Robert Louis Stevenson 96 pages  First Published in 1886 Book description:  It is about a London lawyer named John Gabriel Utterson who investigates strange occurrences between his old friend, Dr Henry Jekyll, and the evil Edward Hyde. So for the sixth challenge we had to pick a book with less than 200 pages, so I had to literally google books under 200 pages and this was one of them. It is a classic read and I have never actually read it before so it helps me get two things done, for starters it meets this challenge's requirements and also it helps me to get another classic this month. With this one it's going to be my third so it gives me a good head strat for this year.  Funny thing, I don't actually know what this book is about and the description it came with was aweful, it gives me nothing. It might be because it is a very old book and most people could already know the storyline therefore the publish

Challenge 3: Nightmares!

Image
Title: Nightmares! Author: Jason Segel and Kristen Miller 355 pages Genre: Childrens, Horror, Adventure Book Description:  Sleeping has never been so scary. And now waking up is even worse! Charlie Laird has several problems: 1. His dad married a woman he is sure moonlights as a witch. 2. He had to move into her purple mansion, which is not a place you want to find yourself after dark. 3. He can’t remember the last time sleeping wasn’t a nightmarish prospect. Like even a nap. What Charlie doesn’t know is that his problems are about to get a whole lot more real. Nightmares can ruin a good night’s sleep, but when they start slipping out of your dreams and into the waking world—that’s a line that should never be crossed. And when your worst nightmares start to come true . . . well, that’s something only Charlie can face. And he’s going to need all the help he can get, or it might just be lights-out for Charlie Laird. For good. Challenge 3: Read a book you've never heard of bef

You're Welcome Universe

Title: You're Welcome Universe Author: Whitney Gardner 297 pages Date Published: March 2017 Genre: YA contemporary Book Description: When Julia finds a slur about her best friend scrawled across the back of the Kingston School for the Deaf, she covers it up with a beautiful (albeit illegal) graffiti mural. Her supposed best friend snitches, the principal expels her, and her two mothers set Julia up with a one-way ticket to a “mainstream” school in the suburbs, where she’s treated like an outcast as the only deaf student. The last thing she has left is her art, and not even Banksy himself could convince her to give that up. Out in the ’burbs, Julia paints anywhere she can, eager to claim some turf of her own. But Julia soon learns that she might not be the only vandal in town. Someone is adding to her tags, making them better, showing off—and showing Julia up in the process. She expected her art might get painted over by cops. But she never imagined getting dragged into a full-

Little Women

Image
Title: Little Women Author: Louisa May Alcott 861 pages digital version  First published in 1868  Genre: Classic historical fiction Book description: Little Women is the heartwarming story of the March family that has thrilled generations of readers. It is the story of four sisters--Jo, Meg, Amy and Beth-- and of the courage, humor and ingenuity they display to survive poverty and the absence of their father during the Civil War.  This is a classic and has been considered one of the best children stories of our time. The  story of the March girls is a classic American feminist novel, portraying the tension between cultural obligation of morally correct way to live by women and artistic and personal freedom in a world ruled by men and social standing. It is a book that should be read at least once in your lifetime. There are mixed feelings about it coming to me from different sources, some people feel that the story in itself really sends the wrong message to girls and society
