Date Published: February 2017.
Book Description: Katie Brenner has the perfect life: a flat in London, a glamorous job, and a super-cool Instagram feed. OK, so the truth is that she rents a tiny room with no space for a wardrobe, has a hideous commute to a lowly admin job, and the life she shares on Instagram isn’t really hers.
But one day her dreams are bound to come true, aren’t they?
Until her not-so-perfect life comes crashing down when her mega-successful boss Demeter gives her the sack. All Katie’s hopes are shattered. She has to move home to Somerset, where she helps her dad with his new glamping business.
Then Demeter and her family book in for a holiday, and Katie sees her chance. But should she get revenge on the woman who ruined her dreams - or try to get her job back? Does Demeter – the woman who has everything – actually have such an idyllic life herself? Maybe they have more in common than it seems.
So this book is told from Katie's P.O.V. so we only get her side of everything. Katie is a young girl who dreams big, she knows there's a limit to the way up the ladder she can get. But she's determined to keep trying, struggle for a bit then get her big break and rise to a higher level of life than she's ahd her entire life. She's a bit shallow, wants glamour, having nice fancy lunches, having nice cars, and the in of everything. She doesn't all right lie but she goes out of her way to make people believe she has a higher living standard than she really can afford. She hangs out with people who have had a little more luck with family or whatever and then bum she thinks haging out with them will be good and soo she could also have the life they lead. She thinks other people have perfect lives, I mean yeah they could have money, fame and what not but their lives could not objectively be perfect but she doesn't notice this until she's able to see her former boss Demeter lose her facade of perfection.
Demeter is a very decided woman and she always pictures to the world a successful woman, with perfect family and a very prestigious job, but maybe she's been doing the exact same thing Katie has been doing all along. She only lets others see the glamorous and nice aspects of her life .... Katie will see that they might have somethings they both lack in complete opposite sides of life confort.
1. Katie may have no glamour in hor job (She tells herself she's doing something while she can get back on track on her branding career and her in-between job is helping out in her Father's farm) but she has a wonderful family. Her father loves her, her stepmother she gets along wonderfully and the people that knew her while she grew up actually are attatched too much to her.
2. Demeter, has the glamour, the job, the dream house, the family portrait ready for a magazine but under that her family is shattered; and just like that the most hated woman of all time (in Katies current state of mind) has issues just like every other human being.
I like this book, Katie evolves as a person and changes from a shallow girl with delusions of grandeur; not really to that degree but what she did have illisions about other people's lives, much like everyone else. The people around always show you their best side and sometimes even go out of their way to make their life seem much more splendorous than it really is, that is happeneing more and more especially with social media. Katie allowed herself to be swept by it but during some not wonderful moments of her life she realizes that not everything is as perfect as it seems. She ends up finding friends in people she least expected to. A very good book. I defintely highyly recomend it, this to shows some of the issues most people have with themselves and end up overly stressed because they can't match to others people "perfect" life.
4.5 out of 5 stars really good.
