Book Description: In the year 2044, reality is an ugly place. The only time teenage Wade Watts really feels alive is when he's jacked into the virtual utopia known as the OASIS. Wade's devoted his life to studying the puzzles hidden within this world's digital confines, puzzles that are based on their creator's obsession with the pop culture of decades past and that promise massive power and fortune to whoever can unlock them. When Wade stumbles upon the first clue, he finds himself beset by players willing to kill to take this ultimate prize. The race is on, and if Wade's going to survive, he'll have to win—and confront the real world he's always been so desperate to escape.
The main charcter is Wade, he describes himself as a slightly over weight young man, he's a senior in highschool just a few months away from graduation. Wade is a faithful member of OASIS an online community that has been his only social life and education center all in one. His online persona is Parzival, he like many others joins a quest to find the Egg the late creator left hidden in the game in hopes of getting the riches and the rights to OASIS. After a five years Parzival finally makes a break through and manages to get the first key. And from there all hell breaks lose. Now that people have proof that there is indeed keys and that they can be found a renewed frenzy surges throughout the digital universe of OASIS. People are literally willing to kill to get their hands on the prize.
A few other players also in the quest of finding the promised keys and unlocking the game's treasure end up becoming friends and possible even more and yet they have not met n real life. Art3mis a "girl" Parzival has been cyber-stalking finaly learns of his existance and their avatars meet, they become close and even in their competition to find the Egg still does not deter them from growing closer and soon Parzival's obssesion with the quest dimishes to be replaced with his growing obssesion for Art3mis, a girl he has never even met.
His best friend Aech is a laid back dude also in the quest, they hang out together almost very often and quiz each other about the 80s culture ad video games in preparation to face every possible ñead to the key. Even if they have not met in person at all, they still consider each other friends.
This started out a bit slow introducing the state of the world after the fosil fuels were completely used up and the state of despair the people and the society was left in. Also Sci-fi has never been my favorite but still this captured me. After you get a third or so into the book you just can't read fast enough to satisfy your intense desire to finish it. It goes from a gaming competition to a hunt for blood... Very good, I give this a 4 out of 5 stars I truly enjoyed reading this book and it would make an awesome movie!
