Favorite couples in 2019
The last year I made a list of the ten best couples I have faced so far, so this year we have the top 5 we have read during 2019. As it was a very good reading year we need to still evaluate it using this category.
I will not use a ranking from 1 to 5 in any particular order. But I will once more list my couples in genres. Let's begin.
YA Graphic Novel
The prince and the dressmaker, Jen Wang.
This is the story of Prince Sebastian who enjoys to dress up as a lady, yet he hides it from everyone. He meets a dressmaker who becomes his personal designer, Frances.
She accepts him and helps him to be more comfortable in his own skin no matter what he likes or dislikes to dress as.
This is a great story that describes a family, acceptance, and overall a lot of great emotions.
Fantasy.
The Chronicles of the One, Nora Roberts.
I have not finished the trilogy but have read the first two installments and have several couples that are perfect examples of great couples.
*Lana and Max they begin as an average couple living in New York that when the plague wipes out most people their power awakes in full. The end of the world just makes them become more united.
*Lana and Swift a man who finds her in her lowest and accepts her fully, he accepts her past and does not blames her or hold it against her. He loves her fully, her magic, the daughter she created with her past lover a man she does not forget him and he does not find blame in that.
YA Contemporary
Orbiting Jupiter, Gary D. Schmidt
*Joseph and Madeline represent an amazing love story regardless of age. They met too young maybe but their feelings were an amazing promise.
We do not see them too much as a couple but we see the power of their feelings reflected in Joseph. He fights for her, walking miles in the snow, ad then even after she was lost to him, his love for her moves on to their child.
This is a book that touches your feelings.
YA Sci-fi
Diabolic, S.J. Kincaid.
We have two main characters and they both have feelings for different people.
*We have Sidonia, a girl who is born into a privileged family living in their own territory and she is gifted a Diabolic a genetically modified humanoid named Nemesis. Sidonia has grown up with Nemesis as a protector and she develops feelings for the girl but she does not come out and say it as Nemesis has the feeling she is a thing not a person and does not think herself capable of feelings as humans.
*Nemesis is thrown into a situation where she meets Tyrus the nephew of the Emperor. And she starts to get to know him and develop feelings for him. She feels an obligation and cares for Sidonia but her romantic feelings are for Tyrus even if she wants to deny her ability to feel. Tyrus is a very open-minded person, especially for their environment. But they are far from being an exemplary couple, they have huge trust and communication issues.
This last year had not the best couples, I did struggle to come up with the couple for this. I generally have issues with several aspects of the romances, so other than my rereads which did not count for the making of this list I had very few options.
