Tome Topple Round 10 Wrap up
So the readathon time passed. It was something even if I was not able to read as much as I had intended.
I planned on reading:
-Elantris, Brandon Sanderson
-Stiletto, Daniel O'Malley
-The Kingdom of Copper, S.A. Chakraborty
-Evolve your brain, Joe Disperza
I managed to finish 3 out of them.
The first of the books I picked was The Kingdom of Copper by S.A. Chakraborty this is the second book in the Daebavad trilogy.
Nahir is forced to marry the Crown Prince, this is the story of how she manages her life in court, her relationships with the different royalty. The political intrigue and hidden plots Daevas, Jin, etc.
We have Ali, the second son making a huge mess of himself and the political situation of the kingdom.
We have a lot of issues and things changing.
I did not like it as it went through for several reasons, it was well written in the way I was scared for what was going to happen to Nahir, annoyed by the plots happening and the people in the middle Ali and Nahir mainly working blinding without knowing what t expect and making bad decisions mainly due to their lack of knowledge.
It had a lot of plot twists, everyone was flawed and the lack of communication prevailed in every person, but at least it had a reason for being so.
It was interesting and by the end I really wanted to get to the last installment of the trilogy.
The second book I picked was Evolve your brain by Joe Disperza.
This book was a struggle.
I have huge struggles with the idea it was selling us. The mind is powerful, yes, your emotions dictate a lot of your wellbeing in a way thinking positive does have a bit of better mental health. But it is not as easy as just deciding, also there is no way that you can cure cancer or spinal cords injuries that make people unable to walk.
The way it explained how the brain works were very simple, I assume that it is meant to be for people who have no idea of biological or medical functions. Yet it was very repetitive.
So, all in all, I had issues to finish it due to what it was reaching and to the very weird level of knowledge of the biological works of the brain.
The third and last book I picked and managed to finish was Stiletto by Daniel O'Malley. This second book was interesting, yet it felt it was too long, we had several plots coming up that were surprising and making it interesting as you were reading but it was in general not too impactful.
Several troupes, I do not enjoy as much.
We have several new characters, interesting friendships developing, not a romance in the way we see it blossom.
It was ok as we read it but not my favorite. I definitely liked the first one better. Nothing really wrong just it did not click with me in a significant way.
Spoiler:
We had the troupe I do not like, not dead, the surprise evil person who is the love interest, the miscommunication and the morally gray decisions of using people for the leaders plan without even giving them the option and having the pawn accept their fate so easily (the huge betrayal by the people you trust and work with/for using you the way it happened, I expected to have repercussions. At least the person who suffered it should have been more affected).
I started Elantris by Brandon Sanderson I am enjoying it well but I am moving very slowly through.
I'll update how that goes a bit later.
