Priority for January 2021

Very sad but I have an issue with completing my TBRs so we're going to try to change that a bit. New years is a very good excuse to change habits, perspectives, and acquire a more realistic view of my reading habits.

My Reading Challenge for 2021 is going to be set at 225. I am going to be counting here graphic novels, manga, and audiobooks. The only thing that I might not count in the overall is the rereads. I am still unsure how to quantify that.

I will have set goals I will try to keep in mind when building my monthly TBRs.

I will try to read more from:

  • Classics and modern classics because I really can't tell the difference.
  • Poetry
  • NonFiction
  • Horror

I will make a more conscious effort to read books by authors that are in other places than US and UK. My initial idea was to have 50-50 authors from US and other countries but I think it even better to have a numeric goal (not percentages). I will read books by authors or set in 20 different countries.

The other aspect of this goal. Read more Spanish works. I am not sure how to name this section, read books by Mexican, Latin, or Spanish authors.

There are a few readathons I will be participating in that will be year long. I will include the posts with the prompts for each one separately in case anyone is interested and wishes to keep it in mind and join.  I was considering joining a book club, but I will not really have time for that if I want to accomplish all my goals to add even more books. We will see, I will add the information for the #Yearathon, the Buzzwordathon, and the Literally dead book club as those are the ones I will for sure participate in.

We have to keep up the balance between the books read and the books bought. The purpose of this is to decrease the unread TBR.

Avoid getting into reading slumps:

-Set small TBRs. TBR can include up to 10 books. That will force me to chose wisely.

-Magna, graphic novels, and comics count separate for TBR. TBR allows up to 4. Pick carefully.

-If a book is not read in the specific or previous month, do not include it in the next TBR.

-Have a separate list and if you feel inclined pick it up. I might do a specific challenge for mid-year or something to pick up books from that specific list of books that I didn't get to in the previous months or something. I'll consider this more as we go.

The small TBR will allow me to feel accomplished and yet if I read more that's great. I will probably end up reading more than the 14-15 books in my TBR but that will provide me a bit more breathing room. Also If I slow down my pace and only read 10-14 books per month I can always modify my Overall reading challenge for 2021. Again this was a very rambly post. I will have to reconsider my TBR and the books I was planning on carrying over from December's TBR. This new plan of action feels like a good choice.

-Secondary goal is to read the books that have been sitting in my unread TBR the longest.

My advice for setting your own goals:

-Be realistic. Setting goals with several steps and small changes at a time.

-Avoid extreme drastic changes.

-It's totally acceptable to keep the same goals as last year, but be realistic.

-Set a goal that is not hard for you to keep up. That way you feel good about your success and it boosts your spirit to try to reach those other ones that require a bit more work.
