Thoughts:
Again this is already way into the series so anything mentioned here could be considered a spoiler so this makes it very difficult to mention.
These are YA graphic novels/manga and the hero studies and profession feels almost too performative. It also follows the students in their mundane teenage life. It shows teens as they struggle in competition for attention and popularity among classmates and school rivalry with other institutions. We have the typical personal issues a few of the characters have in their family life.
It is interesting and you start to care for the characters. Midoriya is of course the classic MC-kind-hearted, bullied as he grew up but only tries to help those around him He even holds no grudge towards his long nemesis the kid who used to bully him since kindergarten. It can be annoying and yet you like the goodie two shoes too much to hate him.
We get a few characters for the freshman class of UA and you start to dive in a bit more for each one of their lives so it is becoming more interesting.
Again it is full of the classic YA troupes, we have the loser MC who comes on top and starts to excel in every way possible. He cares about his newfound friends and wishes for everyone to be their best. He has a few secrets and is probably destined to defeat an enemy that has been lurking in the shadows for years that no one has even had a chance of defeating not even his great inspiration All Might.
It has friendship and a found family but it feels a bit young as we focus on teenage drama while they are also showing normal school activities like a sports festival and tests.
I have been giving them
With the knowledge of the possible spoilers be warned.
Volume 17
The group of heroes is attacking the headquarters of the Yakuza and the surprise was that the league of villains was also present. The mission is to capture them all and rescue Eli from them. This is full of fighting, the most noteworthy fight is by Lemillion.
The other one happens to be by Midoriya. He is fighting the current head of the Yakuza, Chisaki, he has some very odd powerful ability.
Volume 18
This feature's the end of the fight between Midoriya and Chisaki. After that, it is almost anticlimax as the topics go back to the school activities. There are several results from the fight, deaths, permanent damage on a few more. It still does not feel like big stakes because of severe consequences and then you change to normal school activities. In this case, they go back to school after a short stay in the hospital we see the UA heroes try to take care of a class of elementary students. And the most important activity, the students will have their test for their professional provisionary license for Hero.
Volumen 19
This is a very slow volume in the plot. The main topic here is the cultural festival, it is full of teamwork and what to do to make the rest of the school spend a good time. They are feeling stressed out due to the criminal activities and fight they have faced lately. It makes sense after all they are students and young.
We see another facet, the fight between Deku and Gentle Criminal. This is more showing the other side of why people turn to a life of crime.
Volume 20
The festival finally takes place and that is the majority of the volume. We get an introduction to a few more Heroes, the new ranking of the professional heroes is published. As I mentioned before the profession of Hero is more like a biz career like being a model or an artist. The ranking is made by public opinion and other factors. The new #1 officially is Endeavor.
The nomu show up again. And society is forced to watch a real fight between a criminal and a hero. This fight feels like it has real stakes as the Nomu does not seem to care for anything damage to the city or killing people.
Volume 21
This is a very emotional volume. We have:
-Very difficult fight.
-Hawk forms a very interesting Team with Endeavor. The current #1 does not seem to like him too much.
-Also we see Endeavor try to reach his family and make up for past wrongdoings.
The rest of the story here is a bit more of school rivalry between classes. So in other words, it gives a few punches here and there, and then it goes back to more normal topics.
This is it for now. Let me know if you guys have read this one or if you have seen the anime. I have yet to start it, maybe I should. I would appreciate a heads up if anyone has seen it.
Thank you for passing by. See you later, stay healthy and stay safe!
