1984
Author: George Orwell
Genre: Dystopia
Publication date: June 1949
Book description (from Good Reads): Winston Smith works for the Ministry of truth in London, chief city of Airstrip One. Big Brother stares out from every poster, the Thought Police uncover every act of betrayal. When Winston finds love with Julia, he discovers that life does not have to be dull and deadening, and awakens to new possibilities. Despite the police helicopters that hover and circle overhead, Winston and Julia begin to question the Party; they are drawn towards conspiracy. Yet Big Brother will not tolerate dissent - even in the mind.
Thoughts:
Hard to say the story is very captivating the idea of a government so controlling that it even dictates what you should think about. It is very promising but the story is not action based, the ideology is very explored unfortunately at some points it felt almost as if it dragged because of long descriptions of actions from Winston.
Winston is a very hard character to categorize. I can't like him for some reason but it is not bad.
The whole thing was a rollercoaster, some parts were enjoyable but then some other parts are overly described either the thoughts, the feelings, Winston'sinsecurities, ect that makes the reading feel slower.
It is one of the books you might want to read again and maybe get more out of it. All in all it was a good story but it was dragging a bit.
That ending is not my favorite part, I feel underwhelmed by it but oh well.
