The Gift
Author: James Patterson & Ned Rust
Series: Witch & Wizard #2
Publication date: December 2010
Genre: YA Fantasy
Book description (from Good Reads): When Whit and Wisty were imprisoned by the wicked forces of the totalitarian regime known as the New Order, they were barely able to escape with their lives. Now part of a hidden community of teens like themselves, Whit and Wisty have established themselves as leaders of the Resistance, willing to sacrifice anything to save kidnapped and imprisoned kids. Now the villainous leader of the New Order is just a breath away from the ability to control the forces of nature and to manipulate his citizens on the most profound level imaginable: through their minds. There is only one more thing he needs to triumph in his evil quest: the Gifts of Whit and Wisty Allgood. And he will stop at nothing to seize them.
Thoughts:
A nice quick read. The story develops much faster than the first book and a lot of things happen one after the other, with a lot of references to past events that make it a bit confusing to follow along but it is understandable.
Whit and Wisty are a bit more endearing, still annoying and reckless but they do stick together through thick and thin. Nice example of siblings.
The love stories included do not make sense to me and it would have been better to have it be less of a focus. It is hard to believe in a way that someone could be as in love as Whit and Byron... Hard to imagine that them being so young can be that dedicated and also at least in Byron's case the feelings are so underserved that it seems unrealistic.
All in all the little twists and turns while some were a bit predictable the story was still enjoyable. But it feels like it was too much sidetracking and very little progress in the overall plotline. We'll see how it turns out in the end.
I gave this a 2.75 stars, it is just ok but nothing super exciting and captivating, there is just something that I can't place missing.
