What if its us?
Author: Becke Albertalli and Adam Silvera
Genre: Contemporary
Original publication date: October 2018
Book description (from Good Reads): Arthur is only in New York for the summer, but if Broadway has taught him anything, it’s that the universe can deliver a showstopping romance when you least expect it.
Ben thinks the universe needs to mind its business. If the universe had his back, he wouldn’t be on his way to the post office carrying a box of his ex-boyfriend’s things.
But when Arthur and Ben meet-cute at the post office, what exactly does the universe have in store for them?
Maybe nothing. After all, they get separated.
Maybe everything. After all, they get reunited.
But what if they can’t quite nail a first date . . . or a second first date . . . or a third?
What if Arthur tries too hard to make it work . . . and Ben doesn’t try hard enough?
Thoughts:
It is a nice fluffy quick read. With typical interest, at first sight, everything happening too fast because the time is runing out, it is summer and that's all they're probably going to have. We have a bit too much drama it spans from family, friendship and romance related (topics of parents divorce, past relationships, jealousy, lack of trying, trying too much, oh so much drama) so you're never bored. I should mention a lot of times talking simply solves the problem and better yet not hiding something is even better idea because it always blows up in your face, but then again no one has ever experienced a perfect relationship and we must remember that Ben and Arthur are in the beginning in the getting to know one another where most of the time couples end up fighting a lot while they build up a healthier and more trusting relationship. So in that regards, it makes sense.
This story gets you interested since the beginning, both are very idealistic in my opinion and make mistakes and misinterpretation but then again that is just life.
Ben and Arthur are very realistic teenagers. I really liked them, they make you care for one another and you get caught in their life so much that it leaves you wanting more.
I really enjoyed the ending, it was very mature and it actually made sense.
It does have too much coincidence but then again that's just the universe talking.
