Book description: Miranda Ellis is a woman tormented. Plagued since birth by a strange and powerful gift, she has spent her entire life struggling to control her exceptional abilities. Yet one innocent but irreversible mistake has left her family's fortune decimated and forced her to wed London's most nefarious nobleman.

Lord Benjamin Archer is no ordinary man. Doomed to hide his disfigured face behind masks, Archer knows it's selfish to take Miranda as his bride. Yet he can't help being drawn to the flame-haired beauty whose touch sparks a passion he hasn't felt in a lifetime. When Archer is accused of a series of gruesome murders, he gives in to the beastly nature he has fought so hard to hide from the world. But the curse that haunts him cannot be denied. Now, to save his soul, Miranda will enter a world of dark magic and darker intrigue. For only she can see the man hiding behind the mask.

Thoughts:
The story was maybe just not for me.

Bear in mind that this is insta-love; Arranged marriage.
The powers displayed and the abilities the main characters have are very interesting, even if the origin is not yet explained it is a good introduction to the possibilities of powers and otherworldly beings granting them. Unfortunately, I could not get around several things.
*The way Archer and Miranda treat each other was very annoying, always trying to hide things and not being sincere when they could actually do more together. In part it makes sense they do not yet know one another, they just met. But they are married and they supposed to care about one another. It kind of makes sense the way he tries to "protect" her due to the time period it gives the impression that men underestimate women, yet when he realizes that she has a power that could be very useful he still does not trust her or wants to work with her to get out of the danger. Again it was annoying.

The story kept the mystery throughout the majority and at some point, it was too much. I felt too much in the dark for too long and that is not something I enjoy. (This is only personal preference most people I have talked to loved that aspect as well).

I am unsure if I will give it a try to the next one.
I might need to reread the first one but this time in a physical format. The audio was not bad but I might need to read with the knowledge I might be able to immerse myself more of the story and enjoy it a bit more. We'll see.
