Then Callum 22 came along and changed everything. Now that they've both escaped, they're ready to start a new life in peace on the Reboot reservation. But Micah 163, the Reboot running the reservation, has darker plans in mind: to wipe out the humans. All of them. City of Ghosts

Image
Author: Victoria Schwab 272 pages Genre: Middle-Grade Paranormal First Published: August 2018 Book Description (from Good Reads): Cassidy Blake's parents are The Inspectres, a (somewhat inept) ghost-hunting team. But Cass herself can REALLY see ghosts. In fact, her best friend, Jacob, just happens to be one. When The Inspectres head to ultra-haunted Edinburgh, Scotland, for their new TV show, Cass—and Jacob—come along. In Scotland, Cass is surrounded by ghosts, not all of them friendly. Then she meets Lara, a girl who can also see the dead. But Lara tells Cassidy that as an In-betweener, their job is to send ghosts permanently beyond the Veil. Cass isn't sure about her new mission, but she does know the sinister Red Raven haunting the city doesn't belong in her world. Cassidy's powers will draw her into an epic fight that stretches through the worlds of the living and the dead, in order to save herself. Points to Consider Plot: 8.5 It has the paranormal (thi

The Graveyard Book

Image
Author: Neil Gaiman  307 pages First Published: September 2008 Genre: Paranormal Book description (from Good Reads): After the grisly murder of his entire family, a toddler wanders into a graveyard where the ghosts and other supernatural residents agree to raise him as one of their own. Nobody Owens, known to his friends as Bod, is a normal boy. He would be completely normal if he didn't live in a sprawling graveyard, being raised and educated by ghosts, with a solitary guardian who belongs to neither the world of the living nor of the dead. There are dangers and adventures in the graveyard for a boy. But if Bod leaves the graveyard, then he will come under attack from the man Jack—who has already killed Bod's family. Points to Consider Characters: 8.0 Nobody (Bod) is a very active and curious kid, then teen. He is a bit problematic because he is curious and loves the idea of the outside of his world (the graveyard).  The Owens are an interesting couple and its f

Monsieur Lecoq

Image
Author: Emile G 278 pages First Published: 1869 Book description (from Wikipedia): Monsieur Lecoq is a novel by the nineteenth-century French detective fiction writer Émile Gaboriau , whom André Gide referred to as "the father of all current detective fiction". The novel depicts the first case of Monsieur Lecoq, an energetic young policeman who appears in other novels by Gaboriau.  Points to Consider: Characters: 8.5 Lecoq is a very interesting fellow, he is decided to be the best and everything he does in with that goal in mind. He wishes to solve the mystery and is counting on his companion's lack of vision to do it. He thinks others are not as bright as him, which in turn makes seem a bit self-centered but oh well. He gives Sherlock Holmes vibe, it would make sense since Doyle was inspired by this character to create his own detective with an incredible affinity to details and solving crimes putting together puzzles most people missed. The Witches

Image
Author: Roald Dahl  208 pages Genre: Children's  First Published: 1997 Book Description (Good Reads): This is not a fairy-tale. This is about real witches. Real witches don't ride around on broomsticks. They don't even wear black cloaks and hats. They are vile, cunning, detestable creatures who disguise themselves as nice, ordinary ladies. So how can you tell when you're face to face with one? Well, if you don't know yet you'd better find out quickly-because there's nothing a witch loathes quite as much as children and she'll wield all kinds of terrifying powers to get rid of them. Points to Consider: Characters: 8.0 The grandma is the best, she is full of life and decided. Her strong belief of the things most adults do not believe (witches are real) and is decided to make sure that her grandson is informed and alert to not fall into the claws of the witches. The main character is a very resourceful kid, he might be annoying at some point b
