The Fire
Author: James Patterson & Jill Dembowski
Series: Witch & Wizard #3
Genre: Fantasy, Dystopian
Original Publication date: December 2011
Book Description (from Good Reads):
Whit and Wisty Allgood have sacrificed everything to lead the resistance against the merciless totalitarian regime that governs their world. Its supreme leader, The One Who Is The One, has banned everything they hold dear: books, music, art, and imagination. But the growing strength of the siblings' magic hasn't been enough to stop the One's evil rampage, and now he's executed the only family they had left.
Wisty knows that the time has finally come for her to face The One. But her fight and her fire only channel more power to this already invincible being. How can she and Whit possibly prepare for their imminent showdown with the ruthless villain that devastated their world-before he can truly become all-powerful?
Thoughts:
Unfortunately, the story is each time getting more and more annoying. Whit continues his weird obsession with his dead girlfriend and the magic is still fuzzy. It does not follow a concrete logic. And they continue to face time and time again against the one who is the one and unfortunately it all seems too convenient. If this was considered a middle grade I would be more lenient but this seems to me like the story is too repetitive.
As you read it because you are already invested in the characters you get going and it becomes a quick read and it just spikes the interest once more when a very convenient lucky strike it all comes down to it.
It feels like the story s stuck, the siblings are still the same illogical, making the same mistakes, still not learning anything about themselves or their power always expecting their parents to help and know all the answers, the parents and the people around them that know the big something that no one is telling them. Argh, it is so very annoying I got tired of it but forced myself to end the book because well I just wanted to know the ending.
It is an acceptable ending I suppose but now my question is what about the other books? The Kiss and the Lost, are they a follow-up series, or what?
I am not sure if I will continue to follow the series right away or if I will give it a few weeks before trying them.
I used this book for:
Sailormoonathon. Sailor Mars Read a book about Fire in any way.
