Book Description (from Good Reads): Rowan has gone rogue, and has taken it upon himself to put the Scythedom through a trial by fire. Literally. In the year since Winter Conclave, he has gone off-grid, and has been striking out against corrupt scythes—not only in MidMerica, but across the entire continent. He is a dark folk hero now—“Scythe Lucifer”—a vigilante taking down corrupt scythes in flames.
Citra, now a junior scythe under Scythe Curie, sees the corruption and wants to help change it from the inside out, but is thwarted at every turn, and threatened by the “new order” scythes. Realizing she cannot do this alone—or even with the help of Scythe Curie and Faraday, she does the unthinkable, and risks being “deadish” so she can communicate with the Thunderhead—the only being on earth wise enough to solve the dire problems of a perfect world. But will it help solve those problems, or simply watch as perfection goes into decline?

  • Characters: 8.5
    • Rowan and Citra are a bit more mature yet still overly young in the eyes of the other Sythes.
    • The new little characters especially the Thunderhead's little helper.
    • Tyger not my favorite character but I do not enjoy what his life is like.
    • Thunderhead is given more time and seeing its thinking and planning, it made it one of my favorites people in the book.
  • Plot: 8.5
    • The way the story development is not bad, but it did take a while to get into the story. The pace is good enough and it is again a bit annoying that the world is explored yet it never gives a lot of details about how the deadish are brought back or how the mind can be transferred a person in the transplant of a part of the body. IT really did leave a few questions.
    • The end plan for the scythes was still not fully revealed and the ending in a cliffhanger; well no one likes cliffhangers.
  • Writing Style: 8.0
    • I like writing style, the story even if it does not include as many details as I like it still grips my interest.
    • It is easy to read as soon as the first quarter is passed, in my opinion.
  • Intrigue: 8.0
    • The hand behind all the mayor plays against Citra and Marie, it gives a few "fake" guilty party. Yet the real bad guy takes a little bit to show themselves and that revelation I did not see coming for sure.
  • Logic: 7.0
    • There are a few issues in my opinion, like how real people get revived, how people get the memories of their past. That one detail is the sole reason that stops me from completely submerging in the world.
  • Enjoyment: 8.5
  • Intention: 8.0
Total score: 56.5

Star rating 4.0
