2021 Reading Statistics

  Let's take a look into 2021 in lovely statistics. It might be a boring subject. This in no way is meant to make others feel pressured or compare themselves. Numbers are not the most important thing. Reading happens to be my escape from the real world and due to the current times and my lack of options for the first half of the year that I was not leaving my house at all, well that provided a lot of time I was able to spend reading.  This year was filled with changes and scary situations that had me up and down emotionally. But we can look back in my reading journey and count it as a success.  From these numbers, this represents my goal to have been accomplished in 156%.  From them, 7% were rereads- 23 books. That is a bit below, my goal was 10% but I was very close. My next year's goal is set up differently I will use a number as the goal instead of a percent, I see it more achievable.  The formats are a bit more even, not bad really. How to Spot A Liar

Author: Maryann Karinch & Gregory Heartley Narrated by the authors Published: September 2011 Thoughts: It is an interesting read. It gives you interesting facts about people's biological and emotional response to several stressful situations. The information provided is mainly used for getting information out from people against their will pretty much. It is a good book in the sense of information that you generally do not pick up for yourself. The bad thing is that I find it is hard to actually put them in practice. I thought I was going to get more information on how to detect deception in everyday situations .... and instead, it looks like its more interested in deception and manipulation, which is ok to read about but then again I would never actually put into practice at all. It is, though, a good book to have if you are interested in knowing about deception it carries nice little facts that you would find useful if you can remember. 3.0 Stars

Cuentos de Amor, de Locura y de Muerte

Author: Horacio Quiroga 151 pages Genre: Short Stories Date published: 1917 This is in Spanish and it is a collection of stories, most include a dark topic, have some sort of death or unfortunate circumstance to the characters.  I love the realism and the characters. This is the second I read from Quiroga, the first time I had to read something for High School, I cannot remember what it was. After reading this compilation I am sure it was none of the ones included here but I confirmed my belief, I really like his writing style.  I need to find other of his stories. The planning of the collection was very well done. It starts in a somber tone, then it goes again showing you dark stories (kind of each have death or not happy endings) but then the final one is about love and has a very happy ending!
