Let the right one in

Author: John Ajvide Lindqvist

Genre: Paranormal, Horror
Original publication date: May 2004
Book Description (from GoodReads): It is autumn 1981 when the inconceivable comes to Blackeberg, a suburb in Sweden. The body of a teenage boy is found, emptied of blood, the murder rumored to be part of a ritual killing. Twelve-year-old Oskar is personally hoping that revenge has come at long last—revenge for the bullying he endures at school, day after day.
But the murder is not the most important thing on his mind. A new girl has moved in next door—a girl who has never seen a Rubik's Cube before, but who can solve it at once. There is something wrong with her, though, something odd. And she only comes out at night.

Thoughts:
This is weird!

In a disturbing way.

I like the story in a way, the way the supernatural entity is explored, the actions make sense, the consequences of their existence. That part was good.
The storyline of a bullied boy that manages and how he befriends what everyone would qualify as a monster.

But there was a big part of the book that made me very uncomfortable, there were several situations of pedophilia. Either this was made on purpose and it simply is not for me, but it could have been removed we could have left the gore and violence without this part to give it a darker tone. It has enough violence from bullying, small issues of the different families that get touched in a way by the monster presence... It has a very big web of people who get thrown in and they all have their own issues, so it was a good example of everyone you see has their own back story that could be interesting.

The ending, the last, last few pages, I liked it, too convenient but still to my liking.

This book has a weird vibe and it was hard to make up my mind so I gave it 3 stars.

This book was used to accomplish:
*Spookathon. Read a book with a spooky setting.
