Series: The Diabolic #1
Genre: Sci-fi
Original Publication Date: November 2016
Book Description (from GoodReads): Nemesis is a Diabolic. Created to protect a galactic Senator's daughter, Sidonia. There's no one Nemesis wouldn't kill to keep her safe. But when the power-mad Emperor summons Sidonia to the galactic court as a hostage, there is only one way for Nemesis to protect Sidonia.
She must become her.
Now one of the galaxy's most dangerous weapons is masquerading in a world of corruption and Nemesis has to hide her true abilities or risk everything. As the Empire begins to fracture and rebellion looms closer, Nemesis learns that there is something stronger than her deadly force: the one thing she's been told she doesn't have - humanity. And, amidst all the danger, action and intrigue, her humanity might be the only thing that can save her, Sidonia and the entire Empire.

Thoughts:
This is a very interesting story the religion explored and the mentality the society at large has is very interesting. Humanity has developed technology to move between the stars but now they frown upon science and mathematics, even if it means that their technology is becoming obsolete, the people no longer have the knowledge to fix or evolve. The religion is star based and it supposed to be all-powerful and if you have faith then science is sinful, the Cosmos bless and make everything to happen, science that studies the celestial bodies as object is blasphemy so the religion prohibits learning.

There is friendship and acceptance from several people mainly Sidonia and a particular young man that is very sweet.
IT has romance but it is not insta-love so that's a big plus, I mean you can see it coming a mile away but it is a good development. The love does come a bit fast, the couple moves from "I like you" to "I'm willing to die for you, I love you above all things" but oh well.

It has a few plot twists, that make it interesting. After the halfway point things start to be revealed, more struggles come up and the stakes keep rising (besides you care more about the characters by then) makes the story go much faster.

The ending is promising enough, I could see this as a standalone, not sure what the second book is about and I will read it but still can wait for a while before moving to it.

Gave this 4.0 stars.

Used this book for the challenge:
*Supernatural-a-thon. A title that begins with a D
*Spookathon. Read a book with red on the cover.
