Matilda
Author: Roald Dahl
Genre: Children's
Original publication date: October 1988
Description: Matilda is an avid five-year reader. She's a sensible and intelligent girl, everyone admires her except her parents, they consider her pretty useless. Additionally she has extraordinary powers. As she starts school she meets friends, people who care about her, the lovely teacher Miss Honey and some other awful adults like Headmistress Trunchbull.
Thoughts:
The writing style is witty and funny. I really love it!
The characters even if sometimes come off as exagerated you still care about them greatly.
Matilda is not a perfect girl but she is not entirely flawed, she still very innocent and naive and yet very smart for her age. She has little friends and her classmates do not show dislike simply for her being different than them, love that relationship.
The parents are not my favorite people on the planet and compared to the movie, which was where my comparison based on, the brother was not very resent not for good or bad really.
Regarding her abilities, they tried to explain their appearance and their sudden disappearance as well. It is very glazed over explanation for why a mental capacity that needed to be vented out.
As some of the issues, I have with children's books everything is too much of a coincidence and everything is wrapped up too neatly. Not that is bad but that's a little peeve for me.
I still liked the ending.
I gave this 4.5 stars.
