Last book Haul 2020

Again I am very surprised and yet not on how many books I have read but mostly how much I have spent on books this year alone. I have always tried to ignore my expenses in topics related to books.

-I have tried to tell myself to stop buying so many books.

-I have banned myself from buying physical books.

- Set the rule only ebooks or audiobooks allowed.

-Planned to only look for bargains online and get the 1 cent books in Kindle (Amazon) daily deals.

-I have forbidden myself from buying online books (ebooks, audiobooks or physical books).

-I have made it my monthly goal to only buy a certain amount of books (1 or 2) per month.

Did I accomplish that? Not really.

I even went overboard this month. I bought a new bookshelf. Actually, I bought two. One was delivered and I just set it up (December 26) so it was my Christmas gift for myself in a way. The other one was because I had never come up with that before, I ordered a metallic shelf. You know the type of shelves used in small convenience stores. I am no sure how it will hold up so I ordered one. If this works out, I will stop ordering the normal bookshelves that are hard to build and then very heavy to move and just order more metallic shelves to use. I think I have mentioned this before. I live in a small second-floor apartment, I normally move after a year or two, so having a lot of books and even worse bookshelves is a very bad idea. this current apartment has very inconvenient stairs. The stairs are very narrow and they make sharp turns, it is only a second-story place, why does it need to have 2 sharp 90° turn? The first time we pulled up the first bookshelf we noticed it was horrible! We almost gave up and returned it! I am not sure how I'll manage now to get the two I have currently out from here... God we had such a hard time we are seriously considering leaving the fridge here as a forgotten device and buying a new one in the new place. It was such a huge pain to get it in the time we moved that we had to almost disassemble the door in order to try to get it inside!

Apologies for my rambling. I get sidetracked easily.

In order to hold myself accountable, I have been trying to keep track of the books I have bought lately. I might include there the other bookish things I order such as the shelves. I am sure going to panic and dislike the result.

Before starting, can anyone let me know if this type of thing happens to you? Do you have issues controlling your shopaholic impulses when it comes to books? Please let me know I am not the only person with no self-control!

Books I bought this month:

Little women by Louisa Alcott a classic historical fiction story following the lives of four sisters as they grow up and become women.

The silver mask by Cassandra Clare and Holly Black book four in the Magisterium series. We follow Callum as he struggles with the fight against the big evil alongside his friends.

The beauty of darkness by Mary E. Pearson the third and final book in the remnant chronicles. The story begins with a princess who has to abide by an arranged marriage but before that can take place she runs away. Chasing after her go two young men, they catch up to her and she starts to feel attracted to them. Both are hiding who they are, one is the prince she was going to marry, the other one is an assassin sent to finish her off.

I am also trying to complete the series Junjo Romantica by Shungiku Nakamura so I got the next two volumes 9 and 10. I have yet to begin reading the series, not sure if start it now or wait until I get most of the volumes to start.

To keep in mind I already completed the list of my owned books (physical library) and I am amazed at how many of them I have yet to read. I am still working and by working I mean I have yet to start. I wish to have a list of the ebooks and audiobooks I own as well.

So in audiobooks, I got the last two credits from Audible:

The Raven Boys and Dream Thieves by Maggie Stiefvater. I really like the series and I plan on rereading it often.  This follows Blue a normal high school student. Her special feature is that her whole family has psychic abilities except for her. She runs into Gansey, Ronan, Adam and Noah, the Raven boys (the people who go to a certain school are denominated as such) she swore to always stay away from them. Now she joins them in their quest to find a sleeping Welsh King to grant them a wish when woken, according to the legends.

I canceled my Audible subscription for the time being (mainly for economic reasons and that I do not listen to it as much as I should so why have the subscription). I will continue to evaluate and see if I find a better time to resume it. For now, I'll keep my Scribd subscription as that allows me to have both audio and ebooks.

Also, I bought myself a few ebooks:

I got the final book in the Greatcoats series Tyrant's throne by Sebastien de Castell. This book I have already read and made a review about. We follow Falcio, Kest, and Brasti along with a few other people. The country is in chaos and it gets worse and worse each time. I can't say I hate this book because I do NOT but I was so invested that I spent the whole way through being stressed out because of how f***ed the situation was looking for our main characters.

I really recommend the series.

I have kept up at least the amount of books I buy physically, ebook, or Audiobook for the most part. Some I got in bargains 2x1 and some others I even got in Kindle in those deals of buying a book at $0.01 but still, there were a lot of books bought this year.

The total amount of books I bought this year was 246.

Still, less than the total amount of books read this year but wow. I was not going to buy as many. I do not have the list of ebooks or audiobooks but as for the physical TBR, I have 33% of unread books. It sounds reasonable and doable. Now I will work on the list for the other two categories where I am sure the unread percentage is going to be greater (more like immense).

How about you guys, how many books do you normally buy? Again if anyone can be kind enough to me and let me know being a shopaholic is ok I would appreciate it. Or at least if anyone else suffers the same, we can bring support to one another.

See you later guys, stay healthy stay safe!
