My reading life has changed throughout the years. At first, I would devour series back to back. As soon as I started a book if I discovered its a series I would search long and hard until I found the ones published and try to read the second, third, and any amount of books in the series as soon as I finished the first one.
In reality, I could not keep up as I started to read more and more series. I have set a goal for myself to finish my started series. This is a recap of the series I am in the middle of. As of right now, I'm not sure how many of them there are. By the end of the day, I will be thrilled (Note the sarcasm) to know the number.
We will have a few categories. Why?
Because there are just too many. I started this very unsure and I wanted to just make a single post and include a few categories in a single one, but then I noticed that there were more series to include than what I expected.
The series started a long time ago
Walking Dead by Robert Kirkman. This is a graphic novel/comic unsure what to call it really. I started this years ago but never continued it and in 2020 I picked it up again but I did read the first few volumes in 2016-2017. It follows Rick when he wakes up in a hospital and the world as he knows it is no more. The dead do not stay dead and they intend on coming after the survivor.
Dollanganger series by V.C. Andrews a very polemic series starting with the Flowers in the Attic about 4 siblings trapped in the attic for years so they do not spoil her mother's remarriage plans. It is a dark and very peculiar view on incest of various degrees. I started this series in 2016. I have read 2 or 3 out of the 5 as they do not follow a chronological line jumping in time periods following different generations of the family it lost my interest very early on. Not sure if I will continue it really.
Me before you by Jojo Moyes. Another series started in 2016 a contemporary story about a girl who falls in love with a man who decides to end his own life rather than live as a paraplegic. I read the second one which follows her after his death and trying to redo her life. What will happen in the next one?
Evernight by Claudia Gray another one I started in 2016, see a pattern here? Ok So this is a story of forbidden love between a vampire and a vampire slayer. I loved the first book but have yet to pick up the next installments. I wonder if I reread this book would I still love it?
Absolute Boyfriend by Yuu Watase was another one I tried to pick up again. I started this in 2006 and only read a few volumes, then I decided to read it again and finish it. I did not and to this date haven't. It is about a girl who orders a boyfriend online. She gets it delivered and she discovers its an android and she is thrown into a huge mess after the other as she tries to pay it off while trying to figure out how this could be possible. I really remember enjoying this. I need to find it again and stick to it. I have to start it again, no idea of the details of the story anymore.
On the same note, other works by Yuu Watase were started as well. Fushigi Yugi, Alice 19th and Ceres. I can't really remember them anymore. The first is a historical fantasy story with magic. The second is more like magical realism, the people in the real world have special powers. Yeah, no idea what they were about but I do remember loving the first few volumes I read. I can't remember Ceres at all!
Fifty shades of Gray by E.L James I had forgotten I started this series. Again 2016 I was reading everything popular and this was everywhere. Not even necessary to go into details. Anna meets Christian and they hit it off. He is into some very interesting sexual fantasies. I don't remember liking this book.
The Vampire Chronicles by Anne Rice only read the first book Interview with the vampire. About Lestat who changes a man to a vampire but his new companion is not exactly thrilled by the idea of eternal life. It is very interesting but the issue is that he decides to tell his life story to a reporter. I really enjoyed this but the series is long and I was not able to find the sequels maybe I'll have better luck if I just get eBooks.
His dark materials by Phillip Pullman. I only read The golden compass and followed Layla as she tried to find the children that had been kidnapped. She and her Daemon find new friends and enemies on their journey.
Fruits basket by Natsuki Takaya a story following a young orphan girl who is trying to survive with no family or place to live and is thrown into a series of family feud with a family cursed with a shapeshifter ability. Again I started this series so long ago that I have almost no recollection.
The queen's knight by Kim Kang-Won another graphic novel manga, I think this one is also one that lost interest simply because I took too long to find the next ones. t tells the story about Yuna who travels to Germany to visit her mother and in a snowstorm is fond by a mystery man who saves her life so she can become the Queen of a fantastical land.
The fourth element by Kat Ross a fantasy story about monsters, vengeance and an empire slaving its people. I have absolutely no memory of this book. Not even sure why I gave this a 5-star rating.
Lorien Legacies by Pittacus Lore. I started this in 2018 and intended to read the whole series before that year was out. That did not happen. I only read the first one. Four is living in a small town (big mistake be easier to hide in a city everyone should know that) hiding the fact he is a from another race and world. But the people that are after them are closing in on them.
To all the boys I have loved before by Jenny Han a contemporary story about a young woman being betrayed by her little sister and finding love in the most unexpected way. I read two books in the series but the last one I have yet to get to.
Summer series by Jenny Han another contemporary story about Belly, falling in love, struggling to be reciprocated and typical teenage drama. I read again 2 out of the 3. Still not sure when I´ll find the will to even look for the last one.
The Isle of the lost by Melissa de la Cruz a novella following the children of the villains and princes ad princesses of the fairy tales growing up and going to school together. I think there are maybe three books but when I tried to buy them they were too expensive for me. Now I might try again to find them.
Caraval by Stephenie Garber was one of the first few books I read thanks to the book tube community. The only bad thing I never got to the continuation. Another classic I read the first and said I'll read the next ones before the end of the year (that was 2017).
The queen's thief by Megan Whalen Truner a fantasy story of a thief who is promised freedom if he accomplished an impossible theft. Unfortunately, I forgot to look for the rest of the series.
In an attempt to read more classics I started the Tarzan series by Edgar Rice Burroughs but again only read the first two books. After I had started to read those two I figured out there were 24 books in the series.
Frostblood saga by Elly Blake a fantasy story about Ruby who is hiding her Fireblood in a place ruled by the Frostblood. I no longer remember this, oh wow I would need to reread this before moving on to the next ones.
Passenger by Alexandra Bracken a story about Etta a time traveler whose life is thrown under the bus in a single sweep. She has to fight her way back to her time and safety. I simply need to get to the next ones. One day.
Caster Chronicles by Kami Garcia this book was a bit odd the magic was never explained, a girl has special powers even among her own people. She must decide between dark and light and at the same time go through adolescence. I read two books but they are a bit of a struggle to get through.
The Diviners by Libba Bray a historical fiction laced with paranormal. A young girl is sent to her uncle to escape a scandal in her home town and there she is stubborn and wants to help in the pursuit of a criminal who might have obscure abilities. This is a very intriguing story, I even have the second book, so why have I not continued?
Last reality by Jason Segel and Kirsten Miller a sci-fi series about a game of alternate reality that hides much more than hours of fun. It is similar to the ready player one. I only read the first book and never tried the next ones.
Ready player one by Ernest Cline this other story about a treasure hunt i the alternate reality game where the whole world is chasing after the easter eggs left by the creator. To be fair I did think this was a standalone for a long time.
The witch's daughter by Paula Brackston a historical fiction about a very powerful witch who has the ability to time travel but is running from a dark past. I own both of them but why have I not finished it?
The last magician by Lisa Maxwell a time travelling crew is trying to save the magicians in trapped in Manhattan. There are thieves, found family and betrayal. Again I need to first get the next ones, I have the first one so lets reread it and finish the series the third and last book is coming in 2021.
Delirium by Lauren Oliver a sci-fi story of a dystopian world where the feelings and especially love is considered a terrible sickness that must be cured. I read the first two but the third is still sitting in the selves since 2019 when I planned to read it before the end of that summer.
Stargirl by Jerry Spinelli a contemporary story about Stargirl who is very different and she is happy being so, but she falls in love with a boy who does not appreciate her uniqueness. I should really find the sequels.
Simon Now by Rainbow Rowell a very funny parody to the school of magic and the chosen one. The second book has been out for a bit and I have intended to read it a few times in 2020, that has yet to happen.
Stalking Jack the ripper by Kerri Maniscalco an historical fiction novel following a young woman who wishes to become a phisician in a time when women cannot be viewed even as an option for such careers and she is faced with a series of murders. She is trying to dicover and stop the culprit. I read again only the first one and fully intend to continue and finish the series. I believe the last book has already ben published.
Millenium by Stieg Larson. This is another series I started mainly due to the big popularity it has, but only read the first book. I need to reread the first one to be able to continue with the series.
Silo by Hugh Howey this was started in 2018 again the concept was amazing. People live in underground Silos, the outside is forbidden, deadly and yet there is a big mystery surrounding the topic. We follow a few people who are trapped in the Silo and start to see a bit of cracks in their system. I even reread this book earlier this year with the intention of jumping to the next one. We'll try again at a later date.
Precious stone trilogy by Kerstin Gier a time-traveling girl who must figure out what is really happening and do it before she end up killed. Very a classic YA fantasy really. I was intrigued by the story but the characters were not my favorite. I still really want to finish this sooner rather than later.
Ok this is enough, there are already too many, I'll have to do a part two sometime and from there hope to get a few ideas on what to do next. If anyone has read any of the series mentioned, please nudge me in the regith direction. I really have too many already. This are not even all the ones started before thi year and this year I have also started other few series. Wow how am I going to catch up?
For now, that's it, see you guys later. Stay safe!
