2020 Reading goal completed!

The previous post about the failure and reading slump came to be when I realized last night something I did not expect.

I generally set my Reading goal in Good Reads each year, a bit higher than the previous year in case I did manage to complete the goal. Normally I do complete it very easily, I set it that way. I only started reading for real until I left university and I was trying to find a steady job. With the months of free time, I got into a reading habit. I was not unemployed for long, I was working while I was still going to school but suddenly instead of having classes, social service, and personal life... I had a huge chunk of time free that I had used for school-related stuff.

I do not remember if I complete the goal in what month, I normally complete the goal maybe in December. This is for sure the earliest I have completed it! If I am very close to reaching my goal I set it upwards, but then I come very close to missing it, so I stopped doing that. I believe that in October-November usually, I am very close to reaching it. I know that reading is a hobby but I set goals for it. So I want to accomplish them!

To give you an idea. This is what my challenges have been like for the last few years.

As you can tell I reevaluate my ability to read each year. 2016 I was just trying to get into it. I was finishing up classes, doing Social work, and working part-time. My reading reflects my lack of time.

Funny story 2017 might have been a huge breakup for me and I reacted by going on shopping sprees and doubling my focus on reading. It works wonders as a distraction.

That was off-topic, moving back to my original theme.

I have accomplished my reading challenge each year, yey me! But It is October and I already completed it! Why is that noteworthy?

Last few years I was reading nonstop, I was never in a reading slump.

This year I remember having difficulty completing my TBRs, there were a few months that towards the last few days I was barely reading at all. My main feeling about reading lately is:

  • I did not complete it.
  • I am reading so slow.
  • I don't pick up books as much as I did
  • I don't get through the books on my TBR

But then it catches me by surprise when I reach my goal a few months ahead of time!

Wow! This is a good surprise.

I was so focused on what I was not getting done that I completely forgot to pay attention to one of my goals. I did set this one in two parts.

  • Read 200 new books
  • 25 were left for rereads. As part of my making lists obsession, I have a list of books to reread in 2020. I have even started making the list for 2021.
I have not read the books on this list, better said many are still pending. Throughout the year I added a few more books I needed to reread for different goals but so far I have read 11 out of 27. But outside of the list, I have reread more books. I did reread 23 books so far the year.

I am going to count this as a celebration. I am doing a lot better than I gave myself credit for. We need to stop focusing so much on the misses and try to give ourselves a break and celebrate our victories.
I will continue to read for the rest of the day and especially focus on trying to post blog entries more often. But I am doing pretty well, really.

That's it for now, stay safe!!
See you next time.
