Rating System

I have been going for a lot of changes since the last time I tried to set up a rating system. I am giving up for now on pretending to be objective. Reading is a hobby and I do it for no other reason than I enjoy it. After trying to be "objective" about the opinions I share and failing its time to accept it and move on. I am not an objective, critical reader. For that type of breakdown of literary work, there are plenty of people online who can be of assistance in that regard.

My opinions on books are completely subjective, if you want to hear someone ramble on about books welcome! With the intent of making my rambling have some semblance of understanding for others here is the way I rate my reading.

I will use a 1 to 5 stars rating. (Effective immediately).

I used to have a 1 to 10 then convert it to a scale of 1 to 5 in order to rate it in Good Reads. After a while, it was too much hassle and I gave up on that and just tried to use a 1 to 5 but with .5 in the middle. Again that requires a lot of maneuvering to round up or down when trying to set it in Good reads and I forget on which occasions I chose which option.

So again another change was made, now I just try to use the 1 to 5 without middle points. It simplifies things for me.

The image below shows the feelings for each rating. I am still behind in Good Reads to change my rating for all the books read but I am working on it. Also as I tend to reread, with each reread I update the ratings there.

Rating System Oct 2020 forward

5-stars are my all-time favorite books. Why I enjoy them!! Easy to get. I want to MAKE EVERYONE read them!

4 stars are very good books but still did not make it to my favorites. Still highly recommend them.

For me even a 3-star rating is good, that is a solid, enjoyable story and I will even reread them. It is a good book, above average. I would recommend them to people who enjoy the topic, the genre.

2-star rating is Fair a meh read for me.  Very likely a not-for-me kind of book, but I see other people enjoying it.

1-star is a bad one. I did not like it, can't really recommend it. The issues can vary, it can be a case of problematic content, bad writing style, inconsistencies that can't be ignored, and tamper the enjoyment of the overall read.

I have yet to give a book zero stars, but this one would be along the lines of This book should not be, don't waste your time on it.
