Series:

Author: Agatha Christie

Genre: Mystery/Thriller

Original publication date: February 1932

Book description:

Hercule Poirot is vacationing on the Cornish coast when he meets Nick Buckly. Nick is the young and reckless mistress of End House, an imposing structure perched on the rocky cliffs of St. Loo.

Poirot has taken a particular interest in the young woman who has recently narrowly escaped a series of life-threatening accidents. Something tells the Belgian sleuth that these so-called accidents are more than just mere coincidences or a spate of bad luck. It seems all too clear to him that someone is trying to do away with poor Nick, but who? And, what is the motive? In his quest for answers, Poirot must delve into the dark history of End House. The deeper he gets into his investigation, the more certain he is that the killer will soon strike again. And, this time, Nick may not escape with her life

Thoughts:

So we return to Poirot and his good friend Hastings. Both men tend to have a  weak spot for young beautiful women who are in need of a knight in shining armor.

It all begins with both men trying to settle in a small little town enjoying their time off. They meet a mysterious young woman who catches their eye immediately. She tells them of a few interesting happenings lately laughing it off as bad luck.

She lives in Peril House, and they are immediately drawn to the house and the owner. Poirot is convinced that Nick, the lovely young woman is being targeted. Nick an easygoing woman does not take the warning seriously.

Poirot is investigating against the wishes of everyone. He starts to discover hints of motives for murder. Nick brings a cousin of hers to stay with her in her house. And because it makes perfect sense Nick holds a gathering in her house that ends in tragedy.

Poirot is trying to be the knight in shining armor, again police work is very slow and miles behind the Belgian detective.

The big bad is going to shock you once more. At least I did not see it coming. But again I think that it is designed to not help you. You have no information by which your own conclusions as Poirot makes some huge leaps when doing his deductions.

That will be all for now. See you later.
