Do I have that book challenge
Original creator: Tabby from Keeping tabs, this has been going around for a while but I decided now it's a good time to try it!
Link for their challenge video here.
This is a timed challenge video but I will just do it and leave my "time" but not sure if this should count but oh well.
The Time to beat is: 8 minsThe prompts
I like how deckled edges look on journals, on books my favorite is still the clean-cut look they have on the edges.
I had a lot of issues finding one. At the top of my head I could not come up with the answer, so after looking for oh so long giving up and then returning to the question at the end of them I discover that Yes I won a few of them.
But just FYI, this challenge will no longer be timed!
Hamilton Revolution, it is a gorgeous book and it has deckled edges, I skipped over it so many times while looking for a book to pick for this.
2. DO you have a book with 3 or more people on the cover?
I do have several, but I'll go with Inuyasha, each volume has a different cover but most have characters that appear in that particular volume.
This follows the story of Kagome a normal high school student who suddenly is transported to the Feudal era Japan through an ancient well in her house. She discovers demons and powerful people, she must unite forces with people from the era to find the shards of a powerful jewel that will bring chaos if it falls in the wrong hands.
3. Do you have a book based on another fictional story?
I don't have many retellings... (After taking a look around in her books)
I take that back, I have several, popular Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer. They are retellings of popular fairytales Cinderella, Red Ridinghood, Snow white with a sci-fi twist to them. I really enjoyed them.
4. Do you have a book with a title 10 letters long?
Exactly 10 letters long, I'm sure I can find one.
This is harder than I thought. After going around in circles for a while I finally found one 10 letters long! Twilight by Stephenie Meyer the book in Spanish version Crepúsculo. Yes, I coincidently have the whole saga pretty much in both languages, maybe I'm missing two of the companion novels and the most recent Midnight sun but I do still have the proof of my obsession.
5. Do you have a book with a title that starts and ends with the same letter?
Well, I have one that kind of fits Sleeping Giants a sci-fi story about a giant robot found buried an unknown amount of time ago and that humanity is trying to find a way to understand. Really enjoyed that book. I have yet to finish the series but it seems promising. The ending is a very well placed inducer, that last bit makes you just need to know what's going on. You really need to have books one and two when you start the series, otherwise the suspense and wait might be stressful.
6. Do you have a Mass Market Paperback book?
Yes a lot, I have complete series and some random standalone books on mass market paperback edition.
A fantasy book telling the story of how Elantris a place admired, full of magic and wonder is now seen as a curse and those who "transform" are now monsters instead of gods like creatures. We follow the story of an important young man who loses everything when he is transformed into an Elantrian.
7. Do you have a book written by an author using a pen name?
Yes, I do. For this I'll pick Pablo Neruda a very well-known Chilean author, his works are widely known and he is one of the most famous Latin poetry creators. I just recently started collecting his works. His real name is Ricardo Eliécer Neftalà Reyes Basoalto, he was initially using his pen name to hide and not shame himself and family as they did not agree with his wish to become a writer. Eventually, he changed his legal name.
8. Do you have a book with a character's name in the title?
A fantasy book I really enjoyed but have to reread since I first picked it up. Miss Peregrine's home for peculiar children telling the story of Jacob who is trying to deal with the grief of losing his grandfather and discovering the secrets he was hiding. Some stories are not just stories.
9. Do you have a book with 2 maps in it?
I have several Fantasy books, so this should be easy to accomplish.
The easy answer, the fellowship of the ring by J.R.R Tolkein. It contains several maps.
Just leaving it here in case anyone is interested there is a website that shows the maps here is the lin Interactive map of Middle Earth http://lotrproject.com/map/#zoom=3&lat=-1354&lon=1500&layers=BTTTTT
You can find events, timelines, and other noteworthy parts of the story and pinpoint exactly where it was taking place, it's an awesome thing to have handy in case you really are into an immersive read.
10. Do you have a book that was turned into a TV show?
Lately, it is very common to have books turned into tv shows; The ones I have are
-Shadow Hunter Chronicles by Cassandra Clare a YA series following several main characters, the main one, and the one is reflected on the TV series is focused on Clary, a girl who grew up a regular person (mundane). she discovers she can see people and things other cannot. She s dragged into the Shadow World as she is targeted by demons and her mother gets kidnapped. Clary is a shadow hunter and must learn their way and train in order to rescue her mother and stop Valentine from destroying the downworlders.
-The discovery of Witches by Deborah Harkness an adult book series that gives us the story of Diana, a witch who does not really like magic. She is an academic, happily living ignoring magic, and witch customs. One day she finds a book all the creatures have been trying to find. A book that could potentially destroy the cast of creatures as they have been known. She teams up with Matthew a vampire and they embark in adventures to discover exactly what they have stumbled upon.
Others such as American Gods by Neil Gaiman, Good Omens by Terry Pratchett and Neil Gaiman, the walking dead by Robert Kirkman. Now that I start to mention them, I do have a few.
11. Do you have a book written by someone who is originally famous for something else? (celebrity/athlete/politician/tv personality...)
I have a few books written by celebrities, so we'll use the first one that comes to mind that is Anna Kendrick's autobiographical essays Scrappy little nobody. It is funny and a good time, it is recommended to consume only if you already really like her personality. Otherwise, it's really not going to be an enjoyable read, there is nothing groundbreaking or some deep dark secret she is revealing within its text.
12. Do you have a book with a clock on the cover?
I do not want to repeat myself but a clock on the cover, really? Ok, let's try to find something I have not talked about. And stretching the rules bit. This one has a watch Simon vs. the homo sapiens agenda by Becky Albertalli. This is the story of Simon a gay closeted teen who struggles to decide if coming out in a conservative small town, struggling to find love and other very typical high school moments such as dealing with friends, not so good friends, blackmail, etc.
13. Do you have a poetry book?
I have a few of them as I am trying to explore the genre more and get into it. So far I have only delved into the most popular ones but still not sure what type of poetry is the best suited for me.
Here is a picture of some of my poetry collection:
From this stack, the one I enjoyed the most is Stuff I've been feeling lately by Alicia Cook. It is formatted in different styles, normal short modern poetry, blackout and it even includes music recommendation. Each poem has a song, so you can read along and listen to them, its a pretty nice feel to doing it at the same time.
14. Do you have a book with an award stamp on it?
Yes, I do. I have one that I enjoy greatly the house of Scorpion by Nancy Farmer, this is a sci-fi book first in a series I guess. It follows Matteo Alacran as he grows up in a sheltered way without any knowledge of what is happening outside of the walls of his house. It expands the world towards the middle but there are still many aspects we only dip and leave you wanting more.
15. Do you have a book written by an author with the same initials as you?
No, I looked for someone with the initials SP, or SMP or SMPL but none of those combinations worked. I'll continue working, maybe later I'll find one and buy it in case I see this prompt again.
16. Do you have a book of short stories?
I have a few collections of Short stories, to keep the theme we will go with the spooky theme HP Lovecraft complete collection.
17. Do you have a book that is between 500-510 pages long?
Again one that is time-consuming or maybe it's that I do not know my books as well as I should. After 10 minutes of searching and almost giving up concluding that the answer was no, I found one!
A legal thriller following a man who is trying to confess to the rape-murder of a high school young woman years before. He is released from prison for a different crime nd it comes to his attention that another young man has been serving sentence for the crime and is about to be executed, he trie to stop the execution by confessing. The problem no one really believes him. The defense lawyer is going to first be convinced and then the judge needs to be brought on board to stop the execution of an innocent man.
18. Do you have a book that was turned into a movie?
Yes, I believe I do. Which one should I pick? One of my favorite books and movie, I do like both formats of the story.
This story is of Mat Whitney who is left alone on Mars after his mission has to be aborted only a few days after arriving on the red planet. He now has to find a way to survive while Nasa figures a way to rescue him.
19. Do you have a graphic novel?
This super popular one, I just had to get it. There is a war between two races, the ones from a specific planet and they have wings and from a specific moon and they have horns. The whole universe pretty much sides with one or the other and this has been going on for many years. Two opposing warriors fall for one another, and they have a child, this story is their struggles trying to keep their family safe and sound.
20. Do you have a book written by 2 or more authors?
Let's go with another very well known Sci-Fi story. This story follows a group of people who are running for their lives after a corporation destroys the asteroid they were living and illegally mining o resources. The corporation is a very powerful one and they are not stopping at anything to permanently silence the survivors. We have an AI, a few very well trained mercenaries and thieves, some very smart people and a whole lot of characters each with their own stories and their own little bit to contribute to this chase.
For now, that's it, stay safe and I'll see you next time!
