DNF tag

Who doesn't like book tags?
I recently found this tag and I think it's a very good idea so let's try it. I was not tagged by anyone but I mean in most videos people always say like "If you are not tagged and wish to try it out, consider yourself tagged and go for it."

This was created by Nelle and Scott
From Gunpower, fiction & plot you can find their original video here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=n-qnvwPZ120

1. Do you DNF?
I do DNF, but it's not too often. I am trying to give myself a bit more leeway on it but I have a hard time making up my mind to actually DNF.
For a few years, I had a very hard time deciding my stance on DNF. It has been only a few months, maybe halfway through 2020 I finally decided I will be DNFing books.

2. If you DNF a book- does it count towards books read for the month?
If I DNF a book, then I don't count it as read, sometimes if I am already too far into it I do get a bit annoyed because, by DNFing, it no longer counts so that time and page count is lost.

3. Is there a difference between dnf and “just putting it down for a bit”
For me yes, I  sometimes start a book and just put it down either because I'm not feeling it, it is taking too long to get through I put them down with the intention of picking it back up at a later date. In my mind they are different. When I DNF, I have completely given up ever trying to read that book.

4. What popular book have you dnf?
I haven't DNFed very many books as of yet. I just started to DNF recently, but the one that comes to mind is White like me by Tim Wise

5. What book do you wish you had dnf?
I can't think of one at the top of my head. But one I was very doubtful was Since you've been gone by Morgan Matson. It is a contemporary YA story, that did not connect with me, throughout the 400-500ish pages I felt nothing was happening and I just wanted the story to be done. It would have been so much better to simply stop reading it. I don't remember much about the book, and there was nothing technically wrong with it, but it was just not for me.

6. Do you ever re attempt to read a dnf? Has this ever been successful for you?
I have not DNF books for long, I have yet to try to pick up a book after I DNF. Sometimes I put a book down for a bit and then pick it up again. But those were not considered DNF, so in my mind, they do not count.

7. What do you do with books you dnf?
I generally donate them if I have a physical copy and if they're in a digital format, I pretty much just ignore them for the rest of the time. I have a huge amount of digital books, so I generally just ignore those that I do not enjoy that much but see no need to get rid of them as they are not even taking up space.

8. Do you choose more or less risky titles because of your stance on dnf?
I have been trying to broaden my reads but I do not think the fear of DNFing or allowing myself to DNF made any difference.  I have always tried to pick books up even if they are very different from what I normally read, a lot of times that proves to be a mistake, but I still make myself read them in case I find a hidden gem or discover a new taste in books. Now that I am going to allow myself DNF, I think I will continue to pick books out of my comfort zone just the same. Who knows maybe after a while when I get more comfortable DNFing I might discover that it does make a difference, but for now, it has not.

This was a fun ride. I am not very versed in DNF, but with time as I do it more I'll come up with more fun DNF stories I'm sure. If anyone wishes to feel free to try this tag. Consider yourself tagged.

That's it for now, see you later.
Stay safe!
