Anne picks up the note, which reads "17.1 22 Kilmorden Castle". The next day the newspapers report that a beautiful ballet dancer has been found dead there-- brutally strangled. A fabulous fortune in diamonds has vanished. And now, aboard the luxury liner Kilmorden Castle, mysterious strangers pillage her cabin and try to strangle her. What are they looking for? Why should they want her dead? Lovely Anne is the last person on earth suited to solve this mystery... and the only one who can! Anne's journey to unravel the mystery takes her as far afield as Africa and the tension mounts with every step... and Anne finds herself struggling to unmask a faceless killer known only as 'The Colonel'

Thoughts:

This is the next book according to publication order, so as usual we don't pay that much attention to the synopsis nor to the fact that we are starting another series.
This is the first in the series of mystery novels. But oh well.

There are several characters here, we follow mainly Anne and her adventures. She is very annoying and even with her talks of seeking freedom she dreams of marrying several men she barely knows. But it is understandable. The situation she is, a newly orphan girl, the father an oaf who cared little for finances even if it left his daughter in a precarious situation.
Anne does not think things through before she makes hasty decisions, we have a very naive girl who is after a mystery. She is ill-prepared to solve a murder and find out the leader of a criminal band who had eluded identification and capture for over a decade.
We see several men be interested in the frail young Anne.
This shows insta-love, a girl starved for love gives her heart and full trust.
The story has you following Anne as she is dragged from one place to the next by very small clues. I disliked the romantic relationship here. But the mystery was interesting.
