August Reading Wrap Up

Image
Readathons I had intended to participate, well I tried in most. #AYearAThon, that was a big failure. That book did not even get started, and it was only one. Though luck. I will leave Emma for another occasion. Used-book-a-thon. I did try though did not complete all the challenges not even a bingo line! I managed to complete 8 challenges by reading 3 book so it was an ok week. MY biggest success was the Magical Readathon I did complete it all, I had planned on reading a few extra books and that was not accomplished but regardless I di manage to score: N.E.W.T.s grades: O Arithmancy O Charms O Transfiguration E Ancient Runes A D.A.D.A I managed to complete 12 books I did end up changing some of the ebooks I had established as my TBR. I changed A swiftly tilting planet for Wild Blue Wonder by Carlie Sorosiak and Ranma 1/2 for Blue Exorcist by Kazue Kato but I did end up completing all the intended challenges.  In total, I read 18 books that count for my yearly challen...

Draw TBR January 2020

So let's begin once more by taking a look at how we did last month. We had 7 draws and yet I only completed 5. I did not complete The Hobbit nor the Angel's game So once more I did not manage to do it. I need to work on this so much more!! Let's roll now. How many draws for this month: 5 1. 5 Star prediction The island (La isla), Asa Avdic. This is a mystery/thriller. A group of 7 goes to an island to compete for a job position, something happens and they are trapped, we do get in the book description that there will be a live assassination.  Too vague but that's the best for mysteries. 2. Retelling Pride and prejudice and mistletoe, Melissa de la Cruz This is a gender-swapping Pride and prejudice retelling, that sounds amazing and fun. 3. Adult fantasy The blade itself, Joe Abercrombie. Once more I will attempt to read it this month, I better do it this time. 4. Latin American author Isabel Allende, The infinite plan (el plan infinito). No idea...

The Book Thief

Image
Author: Markus Zusak Pages: 552 Genre: Historical Fiction First Published: 2005 Book description (from Good Reads): Trying to make sense of the horrors of WWII, Death relates the story of Liesel- a young German girl whose book-stealing and story-telling talents help sustain her family and the Jewish man they are hiding, as well as their neighbors. Note: This story has been reread several times, it is very difficult to know if the opinions are for sentimental value or if they are indeed because of the result of an objective analysis. Things to consider: Characters: 10.0  Death is a kind gentle force of nature in this case. He is a good narrator indeed.  Liesel is a young girl, very likable, she is strong-willed, defiant, loving, caring, brave. As you get to know her and discover more about her you end up loving her.  The foster parents shown here are every kid's dream come true. Not unkind, not lenient just stern enough like you would expect a real parent to be and ...

Hamlet: The Prince of Denmark

Image
Author: William Shakespeare  Genre: Classics, Play Published 1600 Book Description (from Scribd):  Set in the Kingdom of Denmark, the play dramatizes the revenge Prince Hamlet exacts on his uncle Claudius for murdering King Hamlet, Claudius's brother and Prince Hamlet's father, and then succeeding to the throne and taking as his wife Gertrude, the old king's widow and Prince Hamlet's mother. The play vividly portrays both true and feigned madness – from overwhelming grief to seething rage – and explores themes of treachery, revenge, incest, and moral corruption. Thoughts: Hard to pinpoint, it is written in a way that you follow Hamlet through his journey trying to get back at his mother and stepfather. It describes him a bit crazy with hallucinations and incessant planning on how to get revenge.  The general idea I like but Hamlet is not a character that I came to like; his attitude, the way blames and insults his own mother, the illogical way he acts (it ...
