Dream Thieves

Author: Maggie Stiefvater

437 pages
Genre: Magical realism/Young Adult/Paranormal
Book Description:
Ronan Lynch has secrets. Some he keeps from others, some he kees from himself. One Secret: Ronan can bring things out of his dreams. And sometimes he's not the only one who wants those things.Ronan is one of the raven boys- a group of friends, practically brothers, searching for a dead king named Glendower, who they think is hidden somewhere in the hills by their elite private school, Anglionby Academy. The path to Glendower has long lived as an undercurrent beneath town. But now, like Ronan's secrets, it is beginning to rise to the surface- changing everything in its wake.

This story gives us a lot of development in the characters lives but the initial search for the king does progress a bit slower. Nevertheless, I just love the story, the little eye-opening happening to Blue, the girl is accepting her own feelings. the little clues that indicate the future relationship to develop..... no spoilers but the story is already showing clear signs of the couples. The second time around you are reading, it is more than obvious and even if there is no more surprise I still love the developments.

Adam, my dear Adam is suffering. He is still too prideful. Gansey is still trying too hard and no one is trying to give him a hand and take some of the pressure off his shoulders. Blue does fall into the typical situation of the girl who can't allow herself to fall for the boy she obviously feels attraction for and instead she tries to "date" the boy who she thinks is more acceptable as a partner, but in the end, the heart wants what it wants. Ronan is not the best brother, he really needs to try for real to be more empathic and understanding with the family he has left. Noah's issues go from not so good to creepy and we even start to get more of Blue and her family (a big caring family that annoys and bothers a teen just like any other non-psychic family).

This part of the story is slow paced but the discoveries on the characters, because that's my favorite part make it so worth it.

Rating 5/5 stars.

I used this book to cover:

  • Emojiathon to cover two challenges:
    • Read a book that takes place somewhere other than you live.
    • Read a book that takes place outdoors because for a lot of the situations they are outside, exploring magical forests, mysterious lakes, visiting abandoned fairgrounds for street racing and such things. These raven boys are a lot of time outside exploring.
  • Lost-A-thon
    • Apple Red on the cover
  • Sequel September and Duodecathon because it is obviously the second book in a series.
