August Reading Wrap Up

Image
Readathons I had intended to participate, well I tried in most. #AYearAThon, that was a big failure. That book did not even get started, and it was only one. Though luck. I will leave Emma for another occasion. Used-book-a-thon. I did try though did not complete all the challenges not even a bingo line! I managed to complete 8 challenges by reading 3 book so it was an ok week. MY biggest success was the Magical Readathon I did complete it all, I had planned on reading a few extra books and that was not accomplished but regardless I di manage to score: N.E.W.T.s grades: O Arithmancy O Charms O Transfiguration E Ancient Runes A D.A.D.A I managed to complete 12 books I did end up changing some of the ebooks I had established as my TBR. I changed A swiftly tilting planet for Wild Blue Wonder by Carlie Sorosiak and Ranma 1/2 for Blue Exorcist by Kazue Kato but I did end up completing all the intended challenges.  In total, I read 18 books that count for my yearly challen...

The Book Thief

Image
Author: Markus Zusak Pages: 552 Genre: Historical Fiction First Published: 2005 Book description (from Good Reads): Trying to make sense of the horrors of WWII, Death relates the story of Liesel- a young German girl whose book-stealing and story-telling talents help sustain her family and the Jewish man they are hiding, as well as their neighbors. Note: This story has been reread several times, it is very difficult to know if the opinions are for sentimental value or if they are indeed because of the result of an objective analysis. Things to consider: Characters: 10.0  Death is a kind gentle force of nature in this case. He is a good narrator indeed.  Liesel is a young girl, very likable, she is strong-willed, defiant, loving, caring, brave. As you get to know her and discover more about her you end up loving her.  The foster parents shown here are every kid's dream come true. Not unkind, not lenient just stern enough like you would expect a real parent to be and ...

Murder in Mesopotamia

Image
Series: Hercule Poirot  Author: Agatha Christie Original publication date: July 6, 1936 Genre: Mystery Book description:  When nurse Amy Leatheran agrees to look after American archaeologist Dr Leidner’s wife Louise at a dig near Hassanieh she finds herself taking on more than just nursing duties – she also has to help solve murders. Fortunately for Amy, Hercule Poirot is visiting the excavation site but will the great detective be in time to prevent a multiple murderer from striking again? Thoughts: Again we follow the great Belgium detective Hercule Poirot as he takes it upon himself to investigate a murder. In this case, the story is a bit different as it is told from the perspective of a nurse who was a witness to all that it happened in Mesopotamia.  It picks up way before the murder takes place and before H. Poirot makes an appearance.  The beginning is pretty solid. We follow a group of people who are working in a dig in Mesopotamia. A group of peop...
