Book Description (Good Reads): A terrible fire in a wealthy suburban home leaves a married couple dead and Detective Lindsay Boxer and her partner Rich Conklin searching for clues. And after California's golden boy, Michael Campion has been missing for a month, there finally seems to be a lead in his case--a very devastating lead.
As fire after fire consume couples in wealthy, comfortable homes, Lindsay and the Murder Club must race to find the arsonists responsible and get to the bottom of Michael Campion's disappearance. But suddenly the fires are raging too close to home.
Frightened for her life and torn between two men, Lindsay must find a way to solve the most daunting dilemmas she's ever faced--at work and at home.

Consider:

  • Characters: 7.0
    • Yuki the DA is a very independent woman, hardworking and dedicated. She is my favorite character here.
    • Lindsay is ok in my scale of likeness, too independent and a bit of insecure in places where she shouldn't, the love part in her life.
    • Even with all the drama, I could not develop a real attachment to them. They were simply meh. The people portrayed were mildly interesting but did not develop enough to make me care too much. Maybe again the issue is that the first few books work to develop the attachment.
  • Plot: 7.5
    • The story starts showing two different type of crimes but the focus is not the actual investigation or at least not too heavily. It is mainly the combination of the characters personal lives, the way the crimes are discovered, the trial, kind of; it does not really show too in debt in any area really. The only thing they do show a bit more in detail is the way the detectives make the deductions. It was ok.
    • The end made up due to the almost lucky breaks give it a bit of realism.
  • Logic: 8.0
    • The way the crimes go is very realistic, the way things develop usually are slow moving and even if the detectives and police try their hardest sometimes it is impossible to find the perpetrators until they made a mistake that gave them a clue.
  • Intrigue: 6.0
    • The story was ok but for some reason, it was not as captivating as I expected. It was an ok story, the pace picks up about a fourth from the ending.
  • Writing Style: 7.0
    • The story is slow paced because it is not a story of who did it? - It was more like the police have no idea of where to start looking. The characters are ok, the plot is enough for a single read.
  • Enjoyment 7.5
    • I had a good read, I liked it as I read it and the ending upped the story, definitely a good idea from the authors.
  • Intention: 7.0
    • I guess the thing we can take from the story was mainly:
    • A man's unwanted attention should not be ignored, it showed that the man could not have good intentions towards you or towards other people.
    • Do not trust people simply because they look decent enough. Be wise of not drinking things strangers or people you do not totally trust give you especially if you are in a secluded place XD
    • This does make me sound paranoid right? But if you see the things that a decent looking person gets away well you might think that as well.
    • The most important one: A pregnant woman should no be working while the birth is 3 weeks away especially not going and coming up and down stairs XD

Total Score: 50.0
Average: 7.14
