Things to consider:

  • Characters: 7.5
    • Mixed feelings about Liesl, there are huge issues with the love interest. She is a very conflicting character with herself, has huge self-esteem issues and is very hard for her to make up her mind about what she wants.
    • Liesl father is a very unlikable person even if he is present only in memories.
    • Goblin King, hard to decide if he is the villain or simply is dealing the best he can with the cards he was dealt. He is very difficult to categorize, especially from getting everything from Liesl P.O.V.
  • Plot: 7.5 and Writing Style 7.5
    • There is a small amount of time span that trapezes in the story. There are things such as the power the Goblin King has and the magic Goblins posses that are explained a bit as the story goes on and it makes more sense as the story progresses, it is very interesting.
    • The story is difficult to get into, hard to say if it personal taste or if it takes a while for the story to take off but even after the story gets more interesting there are conflicting emotions. Liesl's feelings about the Goblin King are slightly troubling. Mainly because he is at times cruel, then nice, then loving then awful to her and she is also very undetermined, not knowing how to feel about him. It is well written, the confusion she is facing, as a reader, you even get annoyed as well.
  • Intrigue: 8.0
    • The whole story is based on escaping the world she is trapped in and it is expressed in a way that has you expecting what happens next. It gives you a few false hopes and setbacks that engage you in the story once more. Though the intrigue is not the man part of the story, It is still mainly a veiled romance.
  • Logic: 6.0
    • This is the part where the most issues come. It does not make much sense and yet it does the way the Goblin King is seen by Liesl her desire, her despair, her "hate" she has so many conflicting emotions about him.... And he is very hard to like as well.
  • Intention: 8.0
    • The way Liesl describes herself is a clear reflection of the life she has been living while growing up. The family that only cares about appearance or talent, yet the talent coming from a woman means so much less. It is a very good way to expose the way that family can affect the way a person perceives themselves even if they do try to move on from that. Liesl still thinks she's talented and decides to hide it, but deep down a doubt and fear are still present in her.
  • Enjoyment: 7.0
    • Mixed feelings as you can probably guess.

Total Score: 51.5
