Genre: YA Fantasy

Book Description (Good Reads): Ketterdam: a bustling hub of international trade where anything can be had for the right price–and no one knows that better than criminal prodigy Kaz Brekker. Kaz is offered a chance at a deadly heist that could make him rich beyond his wildest dreams. But he can’t pull it off alone…
A convict with a thirst for revenge.
A sharpshooter who can’t walk away from a wager.
A runaway with a privileged past.
A spy known as the Wraith.
A Heartrender using her magic to survive the slums.
A thief with a gift for unlikely escapes.
Six dangerous outcasts. One impossible heist. Kaz’s crew is the only thing that might stand between the world and destruction—if they don’t kill each other first.
Note: Before I started reading this I believe I had heard the advice of reading first the Shadow and Bone trilogy. I did not, I have barely read the first book. So, in the end, I read this one first. Personally, I believe, it is not strictly necessary to read the first trilogy in order to understand this story. But in this story, it is already telling you how the ending of that first trilogy in a very loose way. So it is a bit spoilery for the first trilogy.

Things to consider:
- Characters: 10.0
- The cast of characters is very varied in not only looks, countries, abilities, life back stories and professions, yet they all were found on the wrong side of the law.
- Most characters had big flaws, be it crude behavior, liars, gamblers, runaways, etc. They are still captivating. Even if you have not read the previous series, which might have been a bad idea really you still love the characters almost from the beginning.
- Logic: 9.0
- Everybody's life story is very realistic and they give the explanation for their current life choices.
- The way they end up together is very interesting yet after they go through together surely there is no way for them to not grow close.
- Plot: 9.5
- The way it develops is jewel enough, giving you ups and downs, dragging in part that adds only nice drama. Mainly because Kaz makes side decisions and covered plans over and over catching you by surprise. Yet he gets some big surprises as well.
- The ending is a cliffhanger, which is something I do not enjoy much.
- The drama is action filled in big parts and yet it still has a few hints of romance and subtle flirting. But the romance it is not really big enough in the plot, not like in Shadow and Bone where the romance plays a much bigger part in the story.
- Intrigue: 8.5
- The story is very action filled and it keeps you wanting to know what it is going to happen and how the story is going to end.
- Enjoyment: 10.0
- Writing Style: 9.5
- The book is slow paced and yet it becomes easy to read and enjoy so much that you do not want to put it down after you get into it.
- Intention: 9.0
- One of the best lessons we have here: Friends can be found in the most unlikely places if you open up to others.
- Lesson two: You can't hate people for being, there is no such thing as an unnatural race, there is not a person who deserves to be hated and feared because of some characteristic they are born with. The least you can do is get to know them as a person before passing judgment.
Total Score: 65.5
Average: 9.3
Star Rating: 5.0
This book was picked as part of Lalathon! This was the last one that was picked as part of the challenge, I still have 2 days before the end date. But I will continue to read some books that are included in this list but not for the challenge, I plan to read them at a later date this month.
