Book description (from Good Reads)
Children have always disappeared under the right conditions; slipping through the shadows under a bed or at the back of a wardrobe, tumbling down rabbit holes and into old wells, and emerging somewhere... else.
But magical lands have little need for used-up miracle children.
Nancy tumbled once, but now she’s back. The things she’s experienced... they change a person. The children under Miss West’s care understand all too well. And each of them is seeking a way back to their own fantasy world.
But Nancy’s arrival marks a change at the Home. There’s a darkness just around each corner, and when tragedy strikes, it’s up to Nancy and her new-found schoolmates to get to the heart of the matter.
No matter the cost.

Things to consider:

  • Characters 9.0
    • Nancy is a very interesting girl, she is not even trying to get her family to understand her she doesn't want to stay in the very word she was born. She was simply waiting to leave. But then she gets used to the new life she was thrust into, she starts to care about people living close to her and she starts to finally look forward to something in her future.
    • Jack and Jill are interesting girls. They care, in their own way, an awful lot about themselves and their twin but other than that they are not too interested in other people. They see the world so different than most of the kids because of the world they had traveled to.
    • Chris is a very reliable kid, you can count in him to help out, even if he can get stranged from the larger population of their institute. He is a very good choice as a friend.
    • There is a diverse cast of kids, be in descent, of attitude, and of preferences.
  • Plot: 8.5
    • The world is explored as Nancy is discovering it. She had never considered that there were other worlds other than her own. There is a slow-moving mystery in this story with a nice discovery development. It is mostly an introduction to the type of world with multiple doorways to other universe and the type of rules and lives people might face in those other places.
  • Logic: 9.5
    • The few teenagers and adults we can see here react very well all things considered. They are trying to adapt to being a place where they rather not be, this world. It is understandable that most of them want to go back to the worlds they discovered and unfortunately the dislike they have and the way they form friends based on people who shared certain experiences or values depending on the world they were sent to. That discrimination and having a judgmental attitude towards other's because of what they faced is also very realistic.
  • Intrigue: 7.0
  • Enjoyment: 10.0
    • This book captures you from the very first pages, it is mostly character driven and you go discovering things as they go. It is pretty interesting.
  • Intention: 8.0
    • Acceptance, you must let go of preconceived prejudice towards others especially if they are based on the type of life they led or the way they were raised.

Total Score: 62.0
Average: 8.8
