Book Description (from Good Reads): Jasper "Jazz" Dent is a likable teenager. A charmer, one might say.
But he's also the son of the world's most infamous serial killer, and for Dear Old Dad, Take Your Son to Work Day was year-round. Jazz has witnessed crime scenes the way cops wish they could—from the criminal's point of view.
And now bodies are piling up in Lobo's Nod.
In an effort to clear his name, Jazz joins the police in a hunt for a new serial killer. But Jazz has a secret—could he be more like his father than anyone knows?
Thoughts:
When started, I was not expecting much, to begin with. The first few pages where there's a teenager trying to demand to be allowed into the investigation of a crime, he can't be expected to be taken seriously by any police department even from a small town.
Jas is a very intriguing character, to be able to see the way a person can become after having nature and nurture towards becoming a killer and yet he fights so much against it.
There is a lot of emotional struggle here where Jas sees everything in a serial killer's perspective. Where he worries so much, cares so much, makes stupid mistakes just like any rash teen would.
It is a gem. You get so much more than the story to solve the mystery, that aspect does not completely take a back seat but it definitely is not the only thing driving you to finish the book.
Some parts are not completely logical in my opinion. Even if it was a serial killer on the lose and some teen manage to predict it before the lead investigation o the police force they would definitely not seek the help from said kid. But come on, it is so convenient to have them do so, even if it would make more sense to lock him up for acting so suspicious, Jas was practically seeking attention as the prime suspect of the crimes being committed.
But overall it was an enjoyable read and definitely will pick up the next one in the series, I believe there are only three books as a part of the series and some prequels which is now a thing among popular books, the other one sounds even less believable..... FYI in the next installment which is called, I believe The Game and the description says something like a detective from New York request the help of Jas and his two equally young friends (best friend and girlfriend whatever we can call that duo) to solve another wave of crimes. Yes, it is totally believable to have someone actually track him down and ask for their assistance to solve crimes, yep.
Back to the topic at hand, overall the story was good, there was not an extremely surprising plot revelation when the mystery was resolved but it was interesting enough.
In the end, I gave this a 3.75 stars
Recommended mainly for people who like crime-related stories, with a little blood and strong physiological moral issues. Definitely, if you love thrillers and have read a lot of them this will be maybe a simply average book but it is great for people who are still trying to get into the genre.
