For some reason, I always struggle to read as time goes on during certain periods of time. I start very strong be it a weeklong or month-long period.
I usually read two or more books at the time ad that helps me get through books faster. Here are some of the things that help me get through books.
1. Read if possible in different formats.
I usually have an audiobook that I read on my way to work and back and that I use to read it while I do certain house cleaning.
At work I usually try a digital book, I read it at every little free time, I do customer service via phone, so I have time sometimes between a call and the next. Sometimes I barely get a line in but other I ca through a few pages.
My time at home I read a traditional book.
2. If you are not in a mood to read do not force it to happen but do not give it up completely. I set timers of 20 minutes to read books, pick one and then try it for the amount of time. Then continue with life, take another book break and pick a different book. Usually, at a certain point, you get into a book enough to finish it, you get into it enough to pull through. If not you at least make small but steady progress.
3. Avoid social media when you are reading, you get awfully distracted by it.
4. If a book its not working, setting the timer is not making it move forward and inspire to finish it. Put it down and try a different book I do not DNF often but I do put down books for a few days/weeks and when I'm off the slump I pick it up.
5. Read early in the morning and at night right before bed. I know it is a bit hard to do for different reasons.
I leave my house at 4:30 am each day in order to leave for work. I have issues falling asleep therefore I have issues to get up early. I try to get up at 4 am, get ready super fast and then spend 10 minutes reading my physical book. Sometimes I only read a page or two because I take long to get ready or oversleep.
This can be done regardless of the time you get up, reading a single page or two I take it as a win.
At night I sometimes get distracted because one of the things I do is play a game Lords Mobile, where I have to set shields in order to protect my territory. I set it each 24 hours. Fo that I have an alarm to get into the game and do it in time. So I usually an hour before I try to shower, set my clothes and bag for the next morning and read the remaining minutes reading before the alarm goes off.
At the alarm I play my game, then decide the hour to sleep, if I am going to bed at 10, then I read for the remaining minutes.
5. You have to want to read.
The first thing you need to get is the wish to read. After that, finding time to read should come faster. So:
*pick books you are excited about.
*Decide with yourself to participate in readathons that help you get inspiration to continue, as more people are reading at the same time you are!
*Aso if you are lucky enough to have friends who like the same type of books start a buddy read, having someone to talk to about the book you are reading does help to get you to read it more, the more you read the more things you have to discuss.
I have very little life outside of my family time, going to work and house-related shores, but I'm sure you can try to squeeze in a bit of reading in between almost any activity!
I try to read while grocery shopping or standing in line thanks to audio or digital books. Listen to audios while cleaning or straightening my hear, (I have not reached the place where I can shower or blow dry my hair and listen to it, I do not have a speaker with the capacity to overpower the noise, but I have heard people say it's possible).
It's about trying, and a bit of progress it's better than nothing!
