Charlotte's Web
Author: E.B. White
Genre: Fiction, Children's Classic
Original publication date: October 1952
Book description: Some Pig. Humble. Radiant. These are the words in Charlotte's Web, high up in Zuckerman's barn. Charlotte's spiderweb tells of her feelings for a little pig named Wilbur, who simply wants a friend. They also express the love of a girl named Fern, who saved Wilbur's life when he was born the runt of his litter.
Thoughts:
This is a heartwarming story with a flourishing unlikely friendship between a spider and a pig, much stronger than what it was between a girl and the pig.
This story surprised me, it was not like I expected, I really thought the whole thing would be between the girl and her pig. I had not read this story nor did I see the movie, it was a wonderful experience.
Charlotte proved to be the best soul in that story, loving, helpful and the best friend anyone could ask for. It shows also a lot of reality, just because it was for children it did not shy away from the reality of life. Just like you are born, grow and love, your life span has a time limit. It is a very "realistic" view of life.
It is definitely a very quick read as well, that does help especially because the end of the month is coming and I do not want to leave many books pending for next month.
