Genre: Middle-Grade Fantasy
Publication Date: September 2016
Book Description (from Good Reads): Charlie Wilde knew her life would change forever when her family moved from the city of Chicago to the suburbs of Arizona…and that was before she found the bracelet. After putting it on, she notices odd things start to happen. Suddenly Charlie seems to have the speed of a cheetah and the strength of an elephant—and that’s just the beginning. She would be thrilled about her transformation if she had any idea how to use the device or control her amazing powers. So Charlie is forced to put her trust in new friends to help her uncover the surprising truth behind the mysterious bracelet.
Thoughts:
This is a very interesting book, we have a family moving to a different city, the children, mainly our main character is having issues adapting and is scared. Having issues getting new friends and then BAM!
New abilities start to shift her priorities. Charlie does not stop being a kid, she still has everyday issues, parents working a lot, making it on the school soccer team and the comparing the abilities and decide what to do with them.
It is an interesting read, it is very character-driven, there was a single scene showing that there might be something going on the background. Someone wants to find something, and they are willing to threaten and torture which is a kind of weird thing in middle-grade stories.
As usual in many stories, there are things happening at the right moment, a bit too convenient but it is a good flow for the story. Charlie is forced to decide if se her powers to save people or hide it. She has several accidents happen to her one at a time to have her abilities present themselves. But still nice. She had issues with friends, should I become a hero in inner turmoil and several adventures start to happen around her and in her life.
Thinking about it this book also counts for several prompts for the Believeathon this accomplished the challenge Read a book featuring magic, Read a book with a strong sense of friendship, and read a book featuring real-life issues.
