Assassin's Appretince

Author: Robin Hobb

Series: The farseer trilogy #1
Genre: Fantasy
Original publication date: May 1995
Book description:
In a faraway land where members of the royal family are named for the virtues they embody, one young boy will become a walking enigma.
Born on the wrong side of the sheets, Fitz, son of Chivalry Farseer, is a royal bastard, cast out into the world, friendless and lonely. Only his magical link with animals - the old art known as the Wit - gives him solace and companionship. But the Wit, if used too often, is a perilous magic, and one abhorred by the nobility.
So when Fitz is finally adopted into the royal household, he must give up his old ways and embrace a new life of weaponry, scribing, courtly manners; and how to kill a man secretly, as he trains to become a royal assassin.

Thoughts:
I went into this book knowing nothing as usual only that is a loved series.
It starts off very slow in a way, as its the story of a boy who is left in the gates of the castle, he has never met the father figure and the only family he has known, the mother, she holds no power to keep him. It seems extremely realistic, as this story is being told from the memory of a grown-up, Fitz no longer remembers that part of his life, the first few years he spent with his mother.
First off I kind of messed up, I have the first book in Spanish and as the names mean a lot to the characters, the names were changed. And by changed I mean they do not make the same sense in English as Spanish, so I am having a huge issue trying to figure out how to describe each person :(
The characters feel very realistic, Fitz is a lonely lost boy, he gets into the life of the serving class in the castle and yet he still is the so of the prince. So he gets a lot more attention, most of the time in a negative way.
The King, the two younger princes, and his father's wife pay a lot of attention to him in different parts of the story.
It took me a while to get into, first of its a coming of age story, there is very little action about fights, killing and such as he is, for the most part, Fitz is a boy. Yet since his early life, he gets into several situations that wow, you do not expect a teen to be into.
He gets hate, he gets attention from people only for being the son of some person he does not even know.

I loved it!!
I can't make myself say something because it will be spoiled certainly. I have waited over a week and I can't still make up my mind.

We have friendships between Fitz and a young town girl he falls for, but it might be a childish love interest, not sure. Also, his friendship with the people who train him seems like it takes much more hold on his side than on theirs. I mean Burrich his father aid, he trains him as a servant and taking care of the animals, though he cannot take the Wit Fitz clearly is very attuned to. That seems too harsh, Fitz does not get anything explained or trained in the ability he has, yet he only gets shunned for it.
Also, the one ability Royalty has that enables him to communicate with other people from far away etc. But no one tries to train him for real, its a very stupid. They need people to help with the protection of the kingdom and yet they can't take the time to train the new people. That is very stupid and not strategic. But oh well, as you read it you are already very into the characters that you love it.

This is a very great first book.
I loved it! I can't wait to get to the next book, the only thing stopping me its that I have not been able to get my hands on it. I found the third book and yet Amazon does not have the second in Spanish, still trying to decide if its worth the hassle to get it in English and then be lost while I get used to who is who in that book and then have the same issue with I move on to the third as it will be once more in English. I have done this before change back and forth between languages with no issue but the fact that names have so much meaning and they choose words that I barely understand on the go, and I have issues to match it up to the Spanish version, I might need to read it a bit slower in order to get the whole thing.
