Book Trope Bingo
I just saw this, I know I am very late into the game but oh well.
The creator of the Bingo Board I am using is Jesse from Jessethereader. You can find the video here.
BOOK TROPE BINGO SHEET (if you want to play!) https://ibb.co/hgLPbjj
So here it is the board.
So we will use a very homemade bingo paper slips and see how much I know my book and how long it takes me to get to Bingo.
Let's begin:
N3. Free space, that lucky. I will pick one of my favorite mystery/ thrillers. This is the story of an old man who in the last remnants of his life decides to confess to a crime a young man was convicted to and now will serve a death sentence for. Time is running out but not everything is as easy as he imagined when no one is willing to listen or take seriously his confession. A lawyer, a criminal and the family of the man wrongly convicted race against time to stop an unjust sentence to be carried out.
B1. The golde Trio
I will not use the typical and first one that comes to mind, Harry Potter. This time I will pick Going Wild by Lisa McMann this is a very nice magical realism middle grade book about a girl who finds a device that grants her the power of different animals.
I1. The chosen one.
The first one that came to my mind Carry On by Rainbow Rowell. I plays a nice change in the typical Chosen one. I love Bast like most people do.
N4 Bad boy with tragic back history.
So we have the typical pick here Will Herondale from the infernal devices series.
G5. Antihero
Vicious, VE Schwab. A story of two young men who get superpowers and use them for personal benefit. They define morally grey characters very well. Both seem to think themselves above the rest of humanity but are only using the abilities and the people around them for not noble reasons really.
I4 I'm not like other girls.
I can think of several but for the sake of not repeating myself and picking something not seen too often, I'll pick a young adult historical fiction that I have loved since childhood. Esperanza Rising by Pam Muñoz Ryan. It tells us the story of Esperanza a young lady of society living well and prosper in Mexico but then tragedy hits home and the family must flee to California USA during the Great Depression and change the life of luxury for hard labor and financial struggles.
B3. Time Travel
I do have some ideas of time travel even if I don't have that many truth to be told, I could use HP and the prisoner of Azkaban, but then again that one is too well known. I actually do not recall many that fit here.
I will use Ruby Red by Kerstin Gier a translated work part of a series I have yet to continue. In this story Gwen a 16-year-old girl has been living a rather normal life while her cousin has been trained all her life to be able to fend for herself in multiple time periods as in their family there is a time-traveling gene that each specific generation should behold. Big surprise and chaos in Gwen's life when she finds herself the one with the power.
It looks like a promising story and yet this first book was only but introduction the best has yet to come surely.
Ok, so we're getting there I am still quite far to get any form of Bingo but at least now I have 2 possible options to win if I get only two more on either one XD
Moving on.
B5 I have powers. So The first to come to mind was The darkest minds, by Alexandra Bracken. The children who do not die end up surging with certain abilities that the rest of the older population do not possess, does this count?
I'll say yes why not.
O4 Star crossed lovers. I can't really see this phrase and not think of this The hunger games trilogy, I have been rereading the series ad rewatching the movies a lo this year, it's all you hear people refer the main characters throughout the whole thing. Nothing new for anyone really. XD
Katniss and Peeta are thrown into a game where 24 tributes fight to the death, the sole winner is granted immunity and a lifetime of luxury. But what happens when its discovered that Peeta loves Katniss one of his opponents? It is not overly heavy on the romance but it is still there in the back of everything. Awesome really, I love Peta and his devotion to Katniss even if she leaves much to be desired as she does not return nor deserves that devotion.
N5 Unlikely friendship.
The host by Stephenie Meyer. This shows us how Melanie a rebel human who is hiding out barely surviving with her baby brother, is captured and an alien is thrown inside her body to inhabit and control. There is a race of aliens who can be inserted to human bodies and after taking over the planet continue to live life on planet Earth as best they can making changes and improvement to the society as they go. Melanie must learn to live with Wanderer and as time goes on they both grow to understand and care about one another.
G2. Sibling rivalry.
So for this one I really can't say one for sure I have read with this theme. I remember some stories that feature it but have not read personally. Or where siblings just have a hard time understanding each other.
The closest I have is a very recent read Year one by Nora Roberts. It is a story about a plague that starts to kill off most of humanity, how it is spreading adn aking people fear and hate each other as among the survivors there starts to be known that there are some who have abilities that are different. Among the group of survivors we see a pair of brothers, who have magical abilities, they could be considered witches. One has known his power since before the sickness came, the younger one discovered it only after. But he does not like his brother all that much, being told what to do, having to learn to use his abilities from his older brother. It is not rivalry from both sides but there is some bad feelings and a feeling of competition to prove to be the best at least on one side.
B4. Hate to love.
Serpent and dove by Shelby Mahurin
This is the story of a witch and a witch hunter who are force to get married and then have to learn to live with one another and well spoiler alert they fall in love.
We are so close now. I am getting there, it is a bit slower than what I imagined the draws just keep coming all over the place.
Let's continue.
G1. Manic Pixie Dream girl.
No idea so we move one.
I5 Dream sequence.
American God's by Neil Gaiman. A very recent read, this story shows the gods coming living among humans and losing the battle as they are no longer worshiped as in the old days, it is very odd and not always easy to follow but enjoyable read none the less.
O1. Found family.
The lies of Locke Lamora by Scott Lynch.
As mentioned before Locke an orphan is brought up since childhood to be a good criminal the others he grows up with become his family. This is a great example of found family.
O3 Book loving character
Again I first came up with the idea of Hermione, but let's try something else.
Let's pick another children's book. Matilda from Roald Dahl, this is the story of a young girl who is very smart and whose family leaves a lot to be desired but she goes to school and starts to get real friends, not only her lovely books for pleasant company.
B3. Secretly Royal
With this, we could go for several, let's go with Snow like Ashes by Sara Raasch. We have survivors of the kingdom of Winter struggling to fight for the freedom of their people among them their only hope, the sole rightful heir to the throne. We have fighting, friendships, and even some love interests come into play here as the last few standing fight for freedom and stopping the darkness from taking overall.
N2. Absent parents.
Well for this we have plenty, in most YA there are always too much action from children and yet the parents are the last to arrive or not in the picture at all. I'll pick Magnus Chase and the sword of summer by Rick Riordan. We have Magnus a boy living in the street who meets an untimely or unfortunate circumstance and dies. He discovers he is the son of a God and from there, his story unfolds. But as mentioned in the prompt, his father is not someone he sees in his adventures even if he is supposed to be a God and is still in existence somewhere.
Wii we have a Bingo!!
This was certainly stressful, I think I remember now why I do not really play Bingo or Loteria, I have very bad luck with drawing games XD
