Brandon Sanderson Short Stories pt 1
So as part of the Cosmerealong challenge I bought Arcanum Unbound the cosmere collection.
So far I have read very little mainly because I am just starting to read Sanderson's works, I will go slowly through it.
The selish system
It is extremely short and it describes a system of planets and it includes names that we are familiar with after Elantris the Seol, the Doo.
It really is short and has no explanation of why we need it but its a nice little tidbit of random information. I'll see if later this makes sense.
The emperor's soul
This short story is very interesting. Shai is a forger, she makes seals to change the history of objects or people and by changing the past of them the reality of the object person changes.
Shai is caught trying to steal an artifact from the Emperor's castle and is sentenced to death.
She is a con artist, trying to survive at all costs.
Shai is given a task to fix the emperor's mind. He was attacked and his life saved but his mind is not right, he is absent and nonresponsive.
She gets to know some of the arbiters the leaders of the nation. They need to save the Emperor, if he is found out as no longer fit to rule the successor will remove the current arbiters (them) and place different people in their places.
You fall for the wit and charm of Shai, you get invested in her relationship with Gaotona mainly. He is the only one who seems a decent person, in the way he genuinely cares about the emperor for hi well being not only as a means to keep their power over the nation.
Shai never behaves like a standard prisoner, she makes her "cell" the most luxurious room in the palace, she always reacts differently from what the arbiters expected.
I really enjoyed it, I am not sure if this type of magic was explored in other of the cosmere universe, so we'll see what we find later.

Shai modifies everything in the room except that single door with the blood seal. |
The hope of Elantris
This is the retelling of what some of the people in Elantris went through in that one night where everything goes down.
Raoden is off fighting and trying to rescue Sarene and while that is going on most people are trying to go to sleep as normal.
It follows mainly Matisse, a young girl who takes care of the children in Elantris, she is a teenager but she tries really hard to protect them. Putting herself in danger, trying her best to avoid the destruction coming their way.
It's really interesting, of course its a spoiler big time of the story in case anyone tries to read it before reading Elantris.
I do not rate short stories I mean if I rate them individually:
*The emperor's soul
The hope of Elantris
It was an interesting read.
I look forward to continuing, I just need to do a bit more digging and figure out what short stories belong to which book series so I do not spoil myself by reading them before time.
