Assasin's Quest

Author: Robin Hobb
Series: Farseer Trilogy #3
Original publication date: March 1997
Book description: King Shrewd is dead at the hands of his son Regal. As is Fitz—or so his enemies and friends believe. But with the help of his allies and his beast magic, he emerges from the grave, deeply scarred in body and soul. The kingdom also teeters toward ruin: Regal has plundered and abandoned the capital, while the rightful heir, Prince Verity, is lost to his mad quest—perhaps to death. Only Verity’s return—or the heir his princess carries—can save the Six Duchies.
But Fitz will not wait. Driven by loss and bitter memories, he undertakes a quest: to kill Regal. The journey casts him into deep waters, as he discovers wild currents of magic within him—currents that will either drown him or make him something more than he was.

Thoughts:

This is definitely not a fast read, it is a big page count about 800ish pages. But still, there are high stakes here so I had to constantly stop reading as I became very stressed by it.

We continue to see Fitz, he is running around trying to get vengeance, trying to find his true king. The tasks he has to accomplish seem impossible, then he just continues to see things thrown his way, Regal is the most annoying and awful person in this world!

Fitz, his wolf, comes along with odd companions and they end up starting a quest to find the legend Verity left over a year ago.

It is very complicated to talk without spoiling this whole thing. But I felt the thing dragging a bit, a lot of small things happen, Fitz meets people they know more about the abilities he should have and he does not learn so much about it.  We see him failing in several plans he has, we see almost a few times he could start a relationship with other women but he still stops himself at the beginning of sexual acts for the most part.
Side note: he has such a big success, in every place, there is always a woman who wants him and he is very tempted and then he says no, it was pretty annoying not sweet after a while especially because Molly really believes him dead and he continues to use the image of the future he will have with her, retire and live a nice calm life once the war is over. I find it hard to believe that he can expect Molly alone with a daughter born out of wedlock who thinks he abandoned her even before he died to accept his return with open arms.

He continues to say he loves Molly and he will return to her and yet he continues to behave very immature, he puts her in unnecessary danger time and time again for no reason at all!! He is guilty of placing them in danger, people tell him constantly he should stop searching for them in case he finds them and sells their location to Regal, and he does not listen.
We see the Bufon and he takes a more active role in this book, he cares a lot for Fitz, but the nature of depth of those feelings is always left uncertain, doe the Duffon have a romantic interest in Fitz or is it simple friendship?

But the whole book is stress-inducing for me, I was worried about Fitz, and yet at the same time I knew he could not be dead, he was the one who started to tell the story from his beginning, so he must have survived, but the important question became, how?
So I just had to continue to read it. I was angry with myself for taking so long to complete it.

We see also a lot more of the uses of the Wit and the Ability. There are plenty of people who have more control and knowledge and this books makes it more clear, but it was not very clearly explained, or maybe I was the only person who was still a bit lost in the logic the abilities and Wit have. We see amazing feats accomplished with either of them such as contact between minds, locating the individuals even if they do not possess them, create statues, roads, transportation, travel to the past in a way, infliction of pain,  even killing someone through it Imean this magic system is very interesting, but I was always lost in it.

I just finished the book a few minutes ago and I loved it but there is something that makes it not the best of the best!
We have a very realistic and satisfying ending for Keittrich, Verity, Burrich, and Molly. I mean come on, there are real, logical consequences but the last chapter feels a huge pace change.
I felt it a charring change, we had a lot of things happen and yet make small progress for the overall and in the last chapter we jump so much from one thing to another, it was amazing how quickly things took place.

I am unsure of the rating but for now:

This was for my #Makeyourmythtaker the task is the third prompt, I am almost done with this readathon! But I do not think I will do any additional abilities for my character. And well this was the next book we had to read for the Elderlingalong, we are getting through Robin Hobb and I am falling for this older series. Now I wonder what we will encounter in the next ones set I this same world.
